My family and I are very interested in making a trip to DC while at WDW this Thanksgiving. My son, however, is only 5 and won't be eligible for the dolphin swim experience. So, if the rest of us want to have the dolphin swim, can we split it up so that one of us will always be with my son? Or will one of us have to forgo the swim experience to stay with him? Also, will he be entertained enough by the other attractions that we can justify the expense? Any experiences you have with younger children would be greatly appreciated!!

It's a toss up.

The kid would enjoy the lazy river area, and feeding the birds.
But kids who are this young can't appreciate what they're seeing and how much money you are spending. They won't even remember this trip in a few years, whereas it's something special to an adult.

I'm not sure about the kid swap thing. I'm sure they could arrange something if it was only the two of you.

But then your entire day at DC will revolve around the kid and the trantrums they throw.

I'd say to leave the kid at home with grandparents or relatives and go by yourself. This way you can enjoy the park.

My daughter is 10 and appreciated the visit.
A 5 year old is a little to young.
