DC Area DIS meet....MARCH 27!!

REMINDER!

The DC meet being held during Figure Skating World Championships is scheduled for Thursday, March 27, 2003 at Fuddrucker's near the MCI Center.

I will be there, with a friend....my first meet! Who else is coming and is it your first meet, too??

How will we recognize each other? I know Caity is planning on coming, but I think she is the only person on the tentative list that I have already met. Any ideas on how to distinquish ourselves?

I'm going to go to the craft store today...maybe I can come up with some lime green ribbons that I can snail mail to you guys! Other than that, Disney shirts are a good idea!

i 'll post what i'm going to be wearing as we get closer to the meet. i'll try to find some lime green ribbon too.

i've lost track of how many meets i've been to. i think this will be #4.

For those of you going to the Worlds to watch the ladies, it appears that Irina Slutskya (I know I misspelled that!) has withdrawn.

Rumor on the internet has been that her mother is gravely ill and she has not been able to train. I hate that she won't be there and I hope her mom recovers soon. (Some of the rumors sound pretty scary)

There is also a rumor that the entire China team has withdrawn, but no confirmation.

I'll be there, and yes it will be my first DIS meet!

I'll have to settle for wearing a Mickey pin though, because I'll be coming from the office. I think that I have some lime green ribbon leftover from our last Disney trip, I'll try to attach it to the pin in some fashion.

I like the idea of a sign on the table. I probably won't get there until closer to noon, so I'll just look around 'til I find you guys.

Oh, man....I've been worrying about stuff like this.... Where did you hear this stuff, Carol? RSSIF (the RADP of figure skating) is abuzz about Irina, but nothing about the Chinese team. I can live without Irina, but I was sooooo looking forward to the Chinese pairs. They are spectacular!


Anyhow, regarding the recognizing each other... My son takes part in a program at school called "Best Buddies" where they team up non disabled students with students in wheelchairs, on breathing machines and so on. The unit these kids are in runs a couple of businesses. They have a button machine and I called the teacher and they are making buttons for us! Lime green...to say DIS DC Meet March 27, 2003. I should have them Friday. PM me your address and I'll snail mail one to any meet attendee who wants one!! No charge. The competition attendees won't get them in time, but I'll bring them with me and you will at least recognize me at Fudd's.

The rumor on the Chinse is on www.skatingforums.com amoung others. (I had to give up or RISSF, Too many starnge emails!)

The Irina story has been confirmed on CNN.com and ESPN.com. I think the Chinse story is just a rumor. I woud hate for them to pull out since I think it sounds much more like a political move than a safety move. (Remember the Olympic Boycotts) The only people who get hurt by these moves are the athletes.

I can't wait to see our buttons. That is cool!

I just dropped the buttons at the post office for Snoopy, Caity and ryanpatrick'smom. They are really cool, if a little off-center!! I'll have the rest in DC!!!
