OKay, convinced DH we are going to the Daytona 500!! Got decent airfare (well not really, but they are non-stops at great times!!), 2 nights free at the Swan, and I was able to book 3 nights at OKW, I only have 83 points and don't want to borrow, I am waitlisted for Saratoga Springs, and Boardwalk with the standard view. Prefered view is available.

Question - what is the difference between the Standard and Preferred view???? We are in a 1 bedroom (and it better be non-smoking!!!), so should I just go ahead and borrow the extra points for the preferred or wait out for the standard?

BWV Standard View is the driveway leading up to the resort.
Preferred Garden / Pool view is just that--a garden area, one of the resort pools or the canal that runs to MGM.

We were leery of the Standard view until we actually stayed at the resort. It sounds almost sub-standard in a way (SubStandard View.)

Now that we've seen the "view" ourselves, when it's available we would have no hesitation to book the SV. In fact, the SV can be preferrable to a PV in some respects. Many of the Preferred View rooms overlook the pools, which can mean a lot of noise traveling into your room. It can be particularly annoying if you happen to overlook a pool on a night when other guests decide to get a bit rowdy on their 10pm swims.

If you really want to stay at BWV, I'd take the Preferred view ressie and waitlist for the standard. You may never get the SV room.

If the points are an issue, keep your current reservation and waitlist the SV.

thanks, I ended up waitlisting for a Standard View at BWV and for SSR, I have stayed at OKW twice, and VWL once, and since we are in the Boardwalk area, (Swan), figured we would enjoy staying over there. Plus the fact I don't want to borrow more points!!!

This will be a really stupid question, is the clown slide at Boardwalk or Beach Club, and is that the same as Stormalongbay?????

That's the slide at the Boardwalk.

Stormalong Bay is the pool complex at the Beach Club.

Just wanted to say that I'm glad your DH came around. My DH would be all for the trip if we could do it. We'll miss it by a week. We are doing Feb. 6-13th because it our Mardi Gras holiday, and DD will only miss 3 days of school that week. Hope you get your waitlist and have a great time!

I've stayed in standard view 1 bedrooms the past 3 Decembers and would not hesitate to recommend them. The best room we ever had was a standard 1 bedroom - 3123 which is on the corner above the pond, extra large kitchen, living room & balcony. View of both Illuminations and Fantasmic high fireworks.

We've had standard view (3) times at Boardwalk. Once we overlooked the entrance (could see Epcot fireworks), the other time we looked at the duck pond on the very end of the building (could also see MGM studios), the last time we overlooked the old DVC offices and the top of the Swan and Dolphin.

All three times standard view was different for us.

We are also there for the Daytona 500 too. We will be staying in a 2 bedroom with a total of 8 people, all coming & going at different times during the week. (2/16 - 2/23)
We were on a wait list for a boardwalk view and it came thru.
We have 4 houses of neighbors that go to the races here in Chicago and thought we would do the Grand daddy of all races. Actually, we are going to Disney for a week and doing the races while we are here. Have you gotten your race tickets? Talk about expensive!!
Weather in Florida will be better than Chicago at that time!!
Can't wait.

I have not received my tickets yet, we are in the Lockhart Tower, yes expensive is an understatement, $165.00 a ticket!!!! But I wanted to be up high! This is my third year getting tickets, but first year going to this race, (good thing e-bay is around!!) It's a good thing we don't do the "circuit" like we used to, I'd be broke!!!!! I really hope the BW comes through, or now I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet and borrow the points, I just don't like to do that, but I really don't want to stay at OKW again, (not that there is anything wrong with OKW), but would like to try something else out! I think we will leave to go to Daytona around 4:30-5:00am at the latest, but I am also checking into buses leaving the area!

Good to hear it is working out for you.

Have Fun!!
