Daytona 500 WINNER

I was very happy they let them race to the finish. I agree with Nascar and the announcers there was no reason to call the caution because there was nothing in front of them. The finish was incredible, I'll take that over a yellow flag ending any day, no matter who's in the lead. :thumbsup2

Fair enough---But Nascar has thrown the caution in previous races under the same conditions. I've seen them throw a caution, when the wreck was towards the back of the field. This wreck was immediately behind the leaders. Bush was in 3rd.

Nascar has a way of manipulating their own rules, and that gets annoying.

Manipulating the rules for Harvick? If it had been anyone else you might have a case but Harvick is far from a political favorite. When it comes to political Nascar Martin is the man, everyone loves the guy. Harvick not so much. ;)

He is still a bigger money maker than Martin will be this year. I still say the caution would have been thrown, if a different driver was in MM's spot.

And I will have to disagree with you. ;) :) It's nice that we can be so nice when we're disagreeing, isn't it? :rotfl:

I do believe that just 5 laps before that, they froze the field as soon as they threw the yellow. I fail to see how this is any different.

I thought the rules that there would always be at least one lap under green if there was an accident near the end of the race,

I don't think that applies if it is during the last lap, and esp. since it all ended behind the leaders, and didn't block the finish.

I'm not trying to argue. I just feel that Nascar is getting worse, and worse, about the rules. They change, interpret, add new, and manipulate them on a weekly basis.

KristinBelle--Talk to you next week, after California. :) :) I will be out of town, during the race, so will need all the info. I hate watching them taped.

Loving all this Racing Talk! All this "controversy" occurs in all forms of motorsports...Ferrari have long had a reputation for having the FIA bend the rules for them....but in the long run one's personal opinion doesn't ever seem to change the results does it? That's why I gave up getting worked up about it. I just want to see some good FAIR racing! :thumbsup2 Now if only Chip Ganassi can give Montoya a decent car......;)

This is the rule:

NASCAR's rules dictate that the field order is frozen the moment the yellow flag flies and the caution lights come on around the track.

This was there explanation:

NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said the yellow flag did not come out until after Harvick and Martin had crossed the line, even though the crashing began when the two leaders were a couple hundred yards from the finish.
He explained it by saying the cars that were crashing were "already off the track and on the apron,'' adding NASCAR did throw the yellow flag when Clint Bowyer's Chevrolet flipped onto its roof, slid through the grass and caught on fire.
"At that point, the 29 was ahead of the 01 (Martin) and had taken the checkered flag,'' Poston said.

This is what they did two years ago:

In 2005, NASCAR froze the field on the final lap at Talladega Superspeedway because of a spinning car way behind the leaders. Tony Stewart crossed the finish line first, but Dale Jarrett got the win because he was ahead when the field was frozen.

I enjoy NASCAR but they need to get it right.
