Anyone stayed here? It's between Days Suites and Comfort Suites Maingate East. Heard great reviews about Comfort Suites. Anyone know about the Days Suites?

Do a search and you should find your answer. That gets ask about once a month here. The reviews are not good. I hated it and would never consider staying there again.

we just came back from the old town area on 2/28/06.
the days inn suites really didn't look that impressive from the outside :scratchin , sorry.

however if you want i just did my
report here on this board just yesterday where we stayed at the comfort suites
maingate east, take a look. also i got a great rate for the comfort
suites using hotelmartusa.com. they also lowered the $$ before my
trip, i contacted them and they adjusted my credit card amount :thumbsup2 .
great service from them.

About 6 years ago I had planned a trip there and did the dreaded "search"... it was HORRENDOUS! Cancelled immediately! I don't know if it's gotten any better but check the reviews.

I stayed at Days Inn Suites behind Old Town. They were dirty. There were sunflower seeds behind the bed, stains on the kitchen counter, there maybe more wrong that i cant remember about it it was about 11years ago. But will not stay there again.

I think I will keep my happy tail at the Comfort Suites! Thanks!

stayed there awful awful awful, i would sleep in my car before i stayed there again i would not stay there for free or if they paid me.

I stayed there one time one night. 2 1/2 years ago. The place was clean, until the bathroom started to show a leak. I felt sorry for the people under my room, I mean the people on the 1st floor. Maybe there were none who knows. Anyway I luckyly had zero ants. My cousin had an ant infestation when she stayed there. I had a leaky toilet. You will problably have something that may be different or the same, but these hotel/rooms definetly need major home improvement. I do not know why but maybe the bathroom leak was the reason why my room was clean in the beggining? To hide the leak problem?
I got plenty/mountains of towels on that day, too.

This hotel doesn't get the greatest reviews. It is a very basic hotel- w/ no real amentities. The problem being, that I find, is people are quick to say stay away- we didn't like it- but I found most people who said that have never been there-- they're going on what they've read--- and unfortunately, I find 75% of the time- people don't want to give details. It's easier to say it was run down and dirty. Well-- details that stuck to the facts would allow everyone to form their own opinions. I would take bad reviews from people who are repeating hear-say as a grain of salt.

Here's my take on Days Suites. I've stayed in them, they didn't gross me out but the service stank. Our keys didn't work half the time and we had to go wait in a long line at the reservation desk just to get our keys fixed. The room backed up to old town which was noisey at night. If you want kitchen utensils, pots, pans, dishes, toaster you have to rent them. The only good thing I like about them is they use a Murphy bed in the living room instead of a pull out couch. The bed was more comfortable than the "bar across your back" pull out couch. Over the last 25 years I've probably stayed there 7 or 8 times. Most recent was 7 years ago. I've since discovered rental condo's that don't cost a whole lot more but are much better.

DBF's sister booked a room there last year. Her MIL arrived before they did and checked in - she called DBF's sister and told them there was no way they were staying there! She found another quite resort for about the same $$ and demanded their deposit back from Days. From what I remember MIL's impression was that it looked like a crack house :scared1:

IMHO it's not in a good area. There are a lot of reports of crimes against tourists in that area on the news. There have been shootings, robberies, and rapes in that general vicinity on the news over the past couple years. I'll drive through it during the day, but at night it seems very, very skeevy and slimey. They've busted a couple meth labs operating in motel rooms in that general area over the past six months.

I haven't stayed in that motel, but bottom line, there's NOTHING in that area that would make me want to stay there.

We often shop at the Publix and Walgreen's right across the street when we are in the area. Honestly, I don't think it's any worse or rundown than the other end of 192. When we are in WDW, and we watch the news, the entire area seems 200% more crime ridden than my hometown area. So, as tourists you'd have to be on guard and aware. I, for one, have not only drove through the area, but stayed, ate, and shopped in the area. I, for one, think the area is defintely run down and maybe not the cleanest--but I didn't see anyone dealing, or even loittering in the area. I think it compared pretty much to the other end of 192- and it was maybe 1 step down from that Apopoka Blvd (and I'm positive I spelled that wrong) that I've stayed on.

I think there are so many general assumptions being given. I have no stake in the Days Inn or Old Town- but I do get upset when I read so many reports of "my brothers, sisters, best-friends aunts neice said" and then people jump on the bandwagon and take the reports to heart.

we have stayed there twice. !993 and 2004. We would stay there again. This year we decided to stay at Pop Century. If you have issues with people who aren't white or maybe a lower income than yourself, don't go. We enjoyed ourselves and loved having the convience of a full kitchen and a poll outside the sliding back door. We had to call maintenence to fix the door and the toilet and they came right away. For $40 a night we loved it!

I agree with that kilee. Personal experience is what is needed, whether it be good or bad.

I have a couple of questions about this hotel/motel. I'm not trying to flame or start any trouble either, I'm just a little curious.

If this hotel is as bad as it sounds and the area is suspect, why stay there?

There has to be hundreds of motels/hotels in the area around Disney and Universal that are better and safer than this. I know not everyone can stay at a Disney resort or even wants to, but why would you take a chance at a place like this? With a little homework you find some real sweet deals on just about any non Disney hotel and in a much better area.

Thanks to this website and a few others, I've found some good deals on hotels that are a lot better than this one that the OP has asked about. I drove around the Old Town section and surrounding area and I seen some places that would kill the Disney magic if I stayed there. Tacky and gross can't even begin to describe some of them.

I understand people want to save a buck or two, but a few dollars more will get you a much better and safer place to stay. I've learned so much from these boards and have found some real good info if I wanted to stay off site and on a budget. I just can't see how staying at a place like this would be considered a vacation. In fact I would be dreading going back to it after a day at the parks. Just my two cents and thanks for listening. :thumbsup2

People stay there because it is economical and it is a kitchen/living room/bedroom suite. Even the cheap hotels in other areas cannot give that size accomodations for the price. Personally I see nothing wrong with the area that it is in. I like to visit Old Town, just don't want to be in a room next door to it.

Stayed there in 2004 and will never, never, never stay there again, don't care if the room is free! We were sent to the back of the property and my oldest DD was afraid. Sounds silly but she said "Mom, if anyone hurts us back here nobody will ever know." She said it looked like a scene from a horror or thriller movie. There were ants in our room all around the bed and in the bathroom. Parts of the bathroom wall, along the trim, appeared to be damaged from water, missing parts. The refrigerator had a terrible smell and the sliding doors barely slid. The baby crib that we saw sitting outside of one room was so old that it had rust on it and it was not safe at all. The matresses on the beds were very worn. Did we complain? No, because we were only there to sleep for a few hours before heading home. We just counted it as a lesson learned and dealt with it. Didn't sleep too well but made it home safe.

We did stay there June of '04 and I'll tell you about it.

But first I do agree it really helps if information is coming 1st hand and not just someone piling on if they have no real experience with the place.

We are from CO and where looking for a decent place to stay our 1st night before heading to AKL for 7 nights. (I don't agree with that advice any longer about staying offsite the day of arrival) I had no idea what the place or area was like and took a chance on the place. Why not? :confused3 It was at a good price, a suite, offered breakfast and a managers reception at the pool!
:cheer2: The boards here were indifferent about the place at the time, some good and some bad. Nothing that was really sticking out and saying DON'T DO IT!!! It had everything, you'd want to kick off a vacation. Yes, I figured it wasn't the best in the world, but how bad could it be? :scared1:

Well as we pulled in it looked ok. We went in and the registration area was fairly small and a few people where standing around waiting and looking very annoyed about something. :scratchin I should have figured it out then. But hey I was in Florida and heading to see MICKEY with my family for the 1st time in our lives! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Things really started to look up! They gave us a 2 bedroom suite on the top floor! Oh yeah, who's the man! Dad has done it right. We walked out into the middle are around the pool and boom it hit something wasn't right. :worried: The place was filthy. The side walks where dirty, trash laying around, we had a beer can dropped off the rail from somewhere above as we walked by. The elevators are supposed to be see through, they were so scratched up and dirty it made you want to stand in the middle of the elevator and not touch the walls. We actually only used the elevators a couple times as they would never seem to make it up to the top floor until they were full, so we used the stairs most of the time. That was a real nasty
experience :guilty: . The looked as though they were used as ash trays and places to leave trash or old towels. Our room was very spacious, I must say.
It was not very clean or well kept. The door wouldn't close tightly, it seemed to have a gap and light would come in. It would lock. The bathrooms where not very clean, and the bedding was very worn & very used looking. The kitchen area was wiped down but you could see it was not really cleaned, just wiped. The parking area was not very inviting. It was very dark and in most areas it was secluded by tall shubbery all around it. We had planned to bring in only 1 bag & leave the rest in the rental, but not here. I would not stay here for free. That is my honest and 1st person account of the place.

DON'T DO IT

GOOD LUCK, YO
