Daylight Savings Time changes

But the kids have more time to playoutside in the sunshine in the evening when we are in DST. That's one reason I love it!

Yeah, but my kids aren't playing outside right now. And during the summer, they get all day to play outside. I still don't see the need to mess with the time. Like I said before, if some people want "more daylight" they should get up earlier. I don't understand why it needs to be mandated by the gov't.

I dont like the changes either.
It just makes me spend more mornings in the dark...using more electricity for lights then.

The thing is we are in standard time in the winter when days are shorter naturally- seems we should have the daylight saving time during the winter not summer...

I was mad when Reagan made the last change- used to be last weekend in April to last weekend in October- he moved it to the the first weekend in April in his last year of office as president.

Many people are completely unaware of the new time change to the second weekend in March- I'm sure they will start doing public service announcements on the news and all but it is still off a bit...

The funny thing- is by the time they change the clocks it is already staying light later- and I don't need daylight til 9pm thanks...

I also detest DST. If people want more daylight get up earlier. I hate all the changes. Just leave time alone.

That wouldn't help anything right now - as it's dark when I get up at 6:30 am - so, if I get up at 5:30 am, it's still gonna be dark.:confused3

I live in Arizona so we never change!

I totally agree. I have to be to work by 7:30 a.m. When we switch back to DST, we have kids walking around in the dark to get to school.

DST annoys me. It always has. In Michigan in the summertime, it's light outside until after 10:00 p.m. Is that really necessary? Plus, not many kids in my neighborhood are outside playing in the evenings in March.

It's dark at 6:30 am now - great, next month it'll seem like 5:30 am with kids catching school busses and parents dropping kids off in the dark! I'm not a fan until school gets out. I'm really OK with DST starting in early May.

Being someone who gets hit pretty hard with seasonal depression on top of my regular depression, I'm quite welcoming to the change! :thumbsup2 All the hours of darkness really get me down... and I'm up at 6:30 AM every day so it's a bit harder to get up earlier to catch more sunlight :rotfl:

I can honestly say the thought of DST has never crossed my mind, short of watching the news the day before the time change and thinking, "Oh yeah, better change the clocks!" :confused3 :confused3

For Hoosiers, the new stat motto is: "Does anyone really know what time it is?":confused3

We did not follow DST until the past fall, This state is so confused already. Now you start talking about moving the switch date and we are all screwed up:scared1:  :rolleyes2 :faint:

I haven't paid much attention to this, but since you say its the second Sunday in March, I'm flying to Disneyworld that day! I best pay attention, I hope Delta doesn't mess up..hmm..it'll be very interesting to see if people come running for this flight in the afternoon after forgetting to change their clocks.

I LOVE the change! Anything for more sunlight in the evenings! ::yes::

Regarding the energy savings, I believe that I have read that Congress has said that it will review the energy savings after a couple of years and if there is none, then the DST may be shortened once again.

Computers are having a hard time of it. Some computers need Several Hundred patches to correct the problem. Older systems have been advised to change the time and basically keep your fingers crossed. With so many systems interacting with other systems being out of sync with the time can cause applications systems to crash and corrupt database. People in the industry are comparing it to Y2K, the only problem is that rather than having years to fix last time, this time it is turning into months or weeks.

DST is stupid. Time should be constant and just left alone. Wasn't the original intent of DST to make it easier for FARMERS to work the fields?

People in the industry are comparing it to Y2K, the only problem is that rather than having years to fix last time, this time it is turning into months or weeks.

But as I recall, (and I was one who had a real concern about Y2K and how it would affect EVERYTHING - from water to heat to the transportation systems), 12:01am 01-01-00 came along and nothing happened. Well, maybe a few things small things happened - but nothing near catastrophic.

I will keep my fingers crossed that there will be smart people out there to make sure everything keeps running smoothly...

I'm not a big fan of the extended DST. My big complaint is that I hate waking up when its still dark in the morning. It's just now starting to get light a little bit earlier. Now in four weeks we'll be back to waking up to darkness. I say -if anything -abolish DST altogether.

Isn't the reason for this whole thing economic? More daylight hours for us to go out and spend more money? Figures...

I have yet to hear this and I work with Information Technology Services at a University. I really doubt it's going to be as bad as people claim it will be, and nothing like Y2K. Give me a break :rotfl:

I am all for it being lighter earlier. I hate driving home in the dark from work cause you have to be careful not to hit a deer. We live near wooded areas.

I love DST! I hate to drive at night, it puts so much extra stress on me and it also lets the DD's "burn off " that extra energy before going to sleep!:cool1:
