I understand clearly that DVC members may not make use of DVC resort facilities (pools) as a day guest, but are we allowed to visit Vero Beach for a day? We will be visiting family in Lake Wales in April and would like to check out the resort. We have no intention of using the pool but would like to walk around the resort and walk on the beach. And maybe eat at one of the restaurants. Is this allowed?

Yes, of course. A couple of years ago we stayed at Gloria Estefan's resort in Vero and went up to the DVC resort to look around. It's a beautiful resort, although you have to check and see what the dining options are. I think they are rather limited.

To be honest, it's not a place I would drive from Lake Wales to see, but...

Thanks for the info. We have a place in Ocean City Maryland and have spent 30 years of summer vacations there. My husband thought that while we are in FL and not at WDW we should check it out as an alternative in off seasons and just to see what's different. I'm pretty sure the ocean water is a lot warmer there than in OC!

Disney Vero beach is a beautiful resort. Their sit down restaurants are open to the public. You can get to down to the beach from the resort but you can't get back in the resort unless you have a room card to swipe at the gate. There is a public beach access just north of the resort.

OK, let me chime in a different story. In October we were staying at BWV and wanted to visit Vero for an upcoming trip. Because we were staying at a DVC resort already we were allowed to "hop" for the day. We called member services first because we were unsure of the rules. They told us to checkin at the front desk, which we did. After showing our BWV room cards, the manager came back and gave us both a day pass key card. It worked all of the gates. They gave us a map and other information. She also gave us buttons that said "first visit". We even ran into one of the chefs at shutters who told us all about the dining and the special buffets. We had a nice time and will be staying there in May for a few days. Now I'm sure this process was only because we were already WDW guest staying on WDW property. But I had posed questions on this forum about the procedure prior to doing this, and many folks were uncertain about it and most never mentioned the front desk issuing a day pass for hopping if we wanted to. We had lunch on the upper level (can't remember the name). We visited the beach and the pool, but the rain came in after lunch, so we never used the pool. The manager also told us to show our day pass to be issued towels if we needed them. Everyone we encountered was super nice and helpful.

How far is it from WDW to Vero? We are doing a no parks visit, so this is something we might want to do.

Vero is very relaxing, but a bit of a drive. If you want warmer water go to the Gulf! Nothing Disney (yet) but great beaches. TryAnnaMaria Island.

We have a condo on hutchinson island and we drove to vero to see the resort. They are so friendly. We asked the man at the gate if we could go and look at the property because we never were there but we were dvc owners and he told us where to park.....it is beautiful. It takes us around 2 hours to drive from the bwv to vero beach, not a bad drive if you plan to stay the day.

All great information concerning Vero Beach. We have never been there but are considering in the future. Thanks to all who contributed :)

Depending on where you start and which route you take, it's between 100 and 115 miles, and about 2 hours drive time...according to Google Maps.
