Day trip to Universal

We are thinking of taking a day trip over to Universal during our stay. My girls and I are too big of fans to be that close and not at least try.

Is there a place to get discount tickets? Also, how doable is it? I saw the thread on transportation, but wondering how bad the lines will be and such (going 6/5-6/12).

We will be with extended family/friends at Disney-not sure how many will decide to join us. I am guessing that about all we will be able to do that day is HP. What would you say it too young to bother with? My nephew is 5-would he be able to do any of the rides?

And one last one, since we are somewhat flexible, which day of the week would you say is the best to go?

You really cannot find discounts on one-day tickets to any Orlando theme parks. They just aren't offered.

Your dates are near the beginning of the summer travel season. You will probably see moderate crowds at best. In general, the best days to go to UO crowd-wise are mid-week (Tuesday through Thursday), followed by Sunday. Avoid Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays if at all possible.

Within Wizarding World of Harry Potter, there are four attractions. The 5yo, if willing, could do Flight of the Hippogriff (assuming he meets the 36" height requirement) and Ollivander's. He likely doesn't meet the 48" necessary to do Forbidden Journey (the signature ride), but in all honesty it is probably too scary for a 5yo anyway. No way he could do Dragon Challenge, the inverted thrill coaster there, but the older ones and yourself might enjoy it. There are also a few shops and small shows the whole group may enjoy, along with the Three Broomsticks restaurant.

You would probably have time for more than just what WWoHP has to offer. Most can get everything they want done there in 3 or 4 hours maximum. Other parts of Islands of Adventure (the larger park that WWoHP is just one land within) that you might find enjoyable are Jurassic Park, Toon Lagoon, Marvel Superhero Island, and especially Seuss Landing for the 5yo.

Undercover Tourist and I think Maple Leaf are generally considered reputable sources to get tickets online for a discount, but those discounts apply to multi-day tickets in general. You might still be wise to purchase tickets in advance, even at no discount, just to save yourself the time of waiting in line on your arrival day.

Another option, if you are thinking of doing Universal more than once in the next three years, is the Costco ticket. It gives you three days of parkhopper tickets, to be used whenever you want before the end of 2015. They are around $150.

We are also planning a day trip when we go, the second week of December. To be honest, the WWoHP part is for the adults in our party (Mom, Dad, and Granny!) though we are going to try really hard to convert our 9 y.o. into a Potter fan by then! My youngest will be thrilled by all things Seuss, and my son will be more excited by Marvel, so we're planning on spending the whole day there to make everyone happy.

The Costco idea is great! I wish I knew that we would for sure be back in a few years.
