Never been to Baltimore and doing a day trip for late June. Any ideas ? Any "must sees"?

I love the National Aquarium that is down in the Harbor. They also have a discovery museum for kids, but I don;t remember the exact name.

Becareful! Do not stray from the aquarium area! Baltimore is a pretty rough area once you leave the vicinity of the stadiums and aquarium. Also get out before dark if you have children

Nacho Mama's has great Tex-Mex food, too :)

Primaxis correct. Don't stay long after dark :)

I agree with a visit to the aquarium should be a must see. DD loves it there! There are a bunch of shops and restaurants(ESPN with a game room, Hard Rock, to name two) around the harbor and also a mall on the ground floor of the Renaissance hotel. Dont know if you are into baseball but the Baltimore Orioles stadium is right there. They also have a stadium tour which we enjoyed.
The kids discovery museum was really crowded when we went and DD didnt enjoy herself.

I really wasnt aware that Baltimore was such a rough area until I saw a documentary on the area. I couldnt belive this was the same Baltimore that we visited. Never had any problems in the Inner Harbor area.

You might be interested in the Baltimore Ducks. http://www.baltimoreducks.com/ It is a tour of Baltimore, in a vehicle that drives on land and sea. Most of the tour is through the streets of Baltimore, and then it goes into the water for awhile. You don't get wet, the vehicle just somehow paddles stays afloat. The best part of the Ducks tour, IMHO, is the free quackers they give you! It's a plastic duck's beak. When you blow into it, it quacks. We had alot of fun with them. And they made great souvenirs for our kids, lol.

DH took me last August overnight. This will sound corny but we had dinner at the Cheesecake Factory and I really really wish there was one close to where we live. There were too many good things to choose from on the menu, and what we had was fantastic.

My favorite part of our trip was the evening. We are not into the nightlife or anything like that. We just strolled the harbor, and dh was sweet enough to give me as much time as I wanted at the HUGE (biggest in the USA) Barnes & Noble. There is a balcony on the upper floor, right outside Starbucks. We enjoyed relaxing there, watching the harbor and all the stuff going on.

I hope you have a fantastic time!

Well I guess I'll come to Baltimore's defense......it's really not any different from any other large city as far as safety. The Inner Harbor area is perfectly safe, even at night. It's very pleasant strolling along the harbor at night. The Science Center is at one end and well worth a trip if you enjoy that kind of thing. It has an IMAX theater inside which is well worth it. The Inner Harbor is two large pavillions, both with shops and restaurants and you could easily spend a day wandering there. The National Aquarium is at the other end of the piers and if you like aquariums, you might enjoy that. Personally, I think it's very expensive. You can also take a water taxi over to Ft. McHenry, where the Star Spangled Banner was written. It's a beautiful park and they have a very moving film and you can tour the fort. It's free. Enjoy your day!

I'm going to Balitmore and DC next month with my son's school. (he's 11) We're going to the Aquarium, Great Black in Wax Museum, Fredrick Douglas House, and Howard University.

If you have kids..there is the Science museum, with an IMAX theater. The Aquarium is awesome. Tour the inner harbor. Fort McHenry where the Star Spangle Banner was written.

I second Abbie and Glo in defense of Baltimore. I lived there for the first 35 years of my life. It is no different than any other city in that there are parts you want to stay away from. I also don't believe it is any worse that any other similar sized city.

I was going to suggest the Science Center and Fort McHenry, in addition to the Aquarium. I believe that the children's myseum, Port Discovery, closed because of financial problems. There is also the Babe Ruth Baseball Museum near the stadium and the B & O Railroad Museum near the same area.

Thanks guys! Just to fill you in, I don't have kids, I am going with my boyfriend. We love baseball and are seeing the Orioles- not til at night, so we have all day to do stuff.

Ft McHenry, the Science Museum , Babe Ruth Museum and the water/land ride sound really good!

My husband and I went last summer by ourselves for a couple of days and really enjoyed the Ducks. Also, we took the water taxi over to Fells Point - lots of little shops and restaurants. Would you consider spending the night? It might be hard to get a room with the baseball game but your time will go fast. Don't plan too much for one day.

Can you still take the tours of Camden Yards? Catch a game if you can, we would love to, hear its a great park!!

Definatley all the other things people said as well:) Not sure if you are traveling with small children, but a heads up, I dont think you can take strollers into the aquarium is that right:confused:

Have a nice time!
