We are going to be arriving in Vancouver two days before our cruise. I am trying to decide if we should take a day tour to Whistler or just spend both days in Vancouver. Has anyone taken a day tour to Whistler? Would you recommend it?

It depends on what you plan to do in Whistler and how to get there?
  • Peak 2 Peak Gondola
  • walk around the village
  • shopping
  • attractions along the Sea 2 Sky highway
This can all be done in a day trip. If you want to do more.... yep you want more time there.

BTW... lots to do in Vancouver too.
  • Capilano and Grouse can be one day
  • Hop On to Stanley Park, Gastown, Granville Island can be a second day
  • Storybooke, Victoria, Banff, Seattle can be fill additional days

We rented a car and drove up last year, very easy and less expensive since we had four of us. The peak to peak gondola was great as was Whistler. I highly recommend the trip, but there is a lot to do in Vancouver if you just have two days. We were there for 5 days prior to our cruise. Stanley Park can easily take a day, we rented bicycles and had a great time (Dad 66, Mom 44, boys 7 and 9 y/o). We also went to the Aquarium and the Science Museum in Vancouver, walked along the harbor promenade and went to Granville Island. Beautiful city!

When you only have two days, that's quite a lot of travel there and back but it is spectacular. I went in May up on a motor coach there and then took the Rocky Mountaineer back ( three days, two nights in Whistler )

BUT as the other poster said, Vancouver has SO much. I think Stanley Park and Granville Island were my stand outs in the week that I had. Check out City Pass if you can extend your stay at all. Even the transportation is cool, with the Sky train and ferry boats and little water taxis.

Besides Whistler, you might consider taking a ferry to Victoria, BC. We spent a week there last year in a timeshare and loved it. Loads for adults and kids to do and see. We fed the seals on the unique Fisherman's Warf, toured a Bug Zoo, went through the Miniature Museum, visited the petting zoo in a local park, walked through the Empress Hotel but had high tea at Gatsby Mansion (half the price of Empress & three grandgirls 7-12 loved it), had a bicycle-taxi tour of the city, toured Craigdarroch castle (old home on hill overlooking city, girls loved the scavenger hunt), visited the very cool British Museum, drove to Butchart Gardens (also had a fun scavenger hunt for kids) and found a store that sold only macaroons (perhaps the high point of the visit). There is also an Old Spaghetti Factory, if your kids are picky eaters. If you can't make it there on this trip, book a DCL cruise that stops there in the future. We may change our citizenship and move there, it was so much fun.

Hi GPaLarry, we will be going to Victoria BC as well...thanks for all the great tips!!!

With 6 adults, what type of transportation is available for a one day round trip from Vancouver to Whistler?
I was informed that the train is not available (end of July). Thank you in advance :)

Thank you, bcwife76. The web sites have a lot of useful information. I'm eager to pass on the info to my friend in the morning!
