Daughter, 15, had all four impacted wisdom teeth extracted on Friday. She slept most of that day, (good meds), and has been slowly improving. This morning the swelling seems to be at its worst, and she has a good set of chipmunk cheeks.

The problem is finding things she'll eat. Friday, she didn't eat anything, and yesterday she did eat a small dish of coffee ice cream and some pudding. She is hungrier today and feels more like eating, but she is limited to what she can have.

She likes mashed potatoes, so we're going to try that. What are some other good soft-food ideas? Thanks!

I did all four too so I sympathize. If I remember correctly day 3 was my worst as well. I had some soup (not too hot!) and macaroni and cheese along with mashed potatoes and pudding. Hope she's feeling better soon.

I had all 4 impacted removed about 24 years ago (ouch). I remember not eating for a couple of days and then deciding to make myself a chocolate shake. Note to self -- chocolate shake is a bit to heavy for a stomach that hasn't eaten.

Mashed potatoes sound like a good idea. How about oatmeal? Farina? This may sound funny, but how about baby food fruit? Applesauce? Soft-boiled eggs?

I had all four of my teeth out in the summer too, so I can sympathize.

I remember eating lots of applesauce and sherbet because they went down easy. Once I started getting hungrier, I had some really soft macaroni and cheese and I would eat baked potatos (without the skin). I lived off this stuff for a week, as my mouth really bothered me.

DD17 had Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup first - filling and not hard to chew. I warmed it but didn't have it too hot. That and yogurt got us through!!

I ate a lot of canned soup with crackers. You know, mush. Mac and cheese is a good idea. You can try pasta and sauce too.
Remember, no straws. Make sure she eats those shakes with a spoon! :sunny:
I still have to get my top two taken out. I'm putting it off... understandably. I had to go to the oral surgeon for the bottom two (and now I'm scared to go back)

When I had my wisdom teeth out (20 years ago), DH (who was then my boyfriend) brought me Roy Roger's strawberry milkshakes. Ummmmmm!!!

macaroni with just butter goes down ohhhhhhhh so smooth......hope she feels better soon...and she will .....
because the meds had to be taken with food it was hard at first to get our son to eat and then meds....THEY WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR MEDS ;)

She just ate some mashed potatoes and a little bit of applesauce. I never thought about baby food fruit. Thanks!

I don't know what it is about soup, but she won't eat any. :confused3

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. I'll have to run the milk shake idea by her. That sounds like it would fill her up. :)

I was the same age when I had mine surgically removed. I still remember all the soup and cream of wheat! yuk!

Make sure you get some ice packs on those cheeks. My 18 yr old had 2 wisdom teeth out on Wed. and she went to work today. Against my better judgement but made it clear to her manager she might need to go home early. Did not want the heavy pain killers so we are doing 4 ipuprofen. Seems to be working fine. Mashed potatoes( from KFC- her fav) with butter and cheese, chicken noodle soup, popscicles and fudge bars, gatorade, crushed ice, applesauce, today a pbj. She doesn't even olook like they were taken out. Kept ice on them day and night for 48 hours and now will do heat. Seems to do the trick.

Good luck!!

The other thing is make sure she rinses the extraction sight well with warm water, etc. She wants that incision sight to heal right. Dry sockets are absolutely the worst! They are worse than the pain from the extraction itself IMO.

One more idea: Carnation breakfast shakes or even Slimfast. She needs to eat SOMETHING -- doesn't much matter what it is as long as it gets some food/nutrition into her!

We just had this done here too. My child refused to eat soft foods however and had french fries, steak, and most everything else one would never associate with wisdom tooth removal. But I had purchased macaroni & cheese, pudding, mashed potatoes, soup.....One thing that was appreciated was fruit smoothies made with ice cream or from the mixes at the store. Just don't use straws!

The first two days she pretty much kept ice packs on both sides of her face for ten minutes on and twenty minutes off except at night. I followed the suggestion of another poster who said her daughter wore a hoodie when she had her wisdom teeth out, and she put the ice packs between the hood and her face, where they stayed in place by tightening the hoodie's drawstrings. It worked quite well!

She's been taking Hydrocodone/apap, a prescription given by the oral surgeon. He also recommended that she take 3 Advil every six hours for three days, but she hasn't had that much. I don't want to give it to her unless she really needs it. The prescription seems to help a lot. I would like to see her eating more, though.

I had my wisdom teeth removed while my husband was on a deployment. My mom drove me home and I stayed with her for the first day. On the way home, she stopped by Wendy's and got me a Frosty. The first thing I said was "Where is the straw?" Mom just looked at me and said "No straw. Doc's orders". I knew that, but just was not thinking. I was glad my mom was there. Mom gave me a spoon instead.

I remember after the first couple of days being so hungry for real food that i went by Arbys and got a Roast beef sandwich. I took my fingers and pinched the meat into tiny shreds and sort of swallowed it. I did not eat the bread.
