Day of Silence is tomorrow!

:cool1:  :woohoo: :dance3:

I'm really excited, actually. Since I'm in school, they sell ribbons ($1 each) at lunches, and you can wear them on DoS. Teachers have been notified that students wearing the ribbons have taken the vow, and understand that they will not be talking.

I'm most likely going to go for the whole day, though.

Is anyone else excited?

I'd never heard of it either...Guess I'm too old...

Anyhow, I Googled it, and it looks like it's a youth-driven effort to put an end to the silencing of young LGBT people (which takes the form of verbal and physical harassment and assault).

It's a day where students take a vow of silence to bring attention to the hate crimes committed against the young members of the LGBT community. Looks like this year it's being held in honor and remembrance of Lawrence King.

It looks like a great effort! Go youth!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

here's a website all about it:

Exactly right!

By the way, ChrizJen, LOVE your avatar! I'm a musical fan myself. After watching American Idol the other night (Andrew Lloyd Webber night!!), I've been singing (Jesus Christ) Superstar like, all day.

Kind of a...strange...musical, eh?

Good luck with your vow. I would get fired if I did that, because my job is one where I am always on the phone or talking to someone.

I heard about this a little bit ago when I ran across an article about a group trying to stop it. *sigh*

Good luck Amanda! Glad to hear your school is actually supporting it.

Thanks, all! Yeah, our school tries to be diverse, so there's everything from a GSA to Italian/French/Spanish Clubs, to a Ping-Pong Club.

I've already started my day. I'll be writing notes to friends (or rather, friend, because the rest of my friends are down in Baltimore for a music festival with our band and chorus) and to teachers. My mom says she's proud of me for doing this :)

I'll let you guys know how the school day goes later. Remember, even if you can't do a whole day, try to have a few moments of silence observed. Thank you.

Beat me to it! I was just going to post about this. Even though I'm a LONG way from my school days, I'm wearing my Erase Hate t-shirt for casual friday.

I'm home! I made it through the entire school day! (Wow, usually I can't shut up, haha). It was quite interesting, but I didn't get in any trouble. The only teacher who really said anything was my Spanish teacher, but she let it slide.

I'd like to say RIP to all victims of sexual harassment, including those killed for being part of the LGBTQ community.

Great job!

I'd like to say RIP to all victims of sexual harassment, including those killed for being part of the LGBTQ community.

It's so sad that this is an issue and still going on today. But with young people like you there's hope for the future.

Haha, yeah. You guys are welcome :)

It's no problem, really. No trouble, either. I'm glad to do it!

I'm also happy that I found you guys, 'cause you guys are awesome!!
