Day of long walk/run

Is there a benefit to always doing your long walk/run on the same day? I know it is recommended to do it on Saturday but I can not. I have been alternating Thursday or Friday. I think I prefer Friday so I can use Saturday as my rest day.

I am way too sore to even think of going to the gym today so I think Friday is the better day for the long walk.
 
I never thought of it that way :) I usually do my LR on the weekends because I have more time. I'm not very fast so I need to make sure I have the time for a LR. I usually try to do mine on a Saturday so that if the weather is bad I can still go out on Sunday. I also go to the gym on Monday so I like to do a shorter run on Sunday so I'll have more energy.
 
Ideally they would be on the same day. It helps in planning to have the same day devoted to the long run (i.e. always a rest day before and after the run). Physiologically, it simply does not matter. Do what is best for your schedule. I have a couple personal clients that have inconsistent schedules. Fortunately we can work at least 4 weeks out so we can lay out a month of workouts at a time and plan on their scedules.
