Day crowds on a HHN night?

I'm assuming that the non-HHN days would be less crowded (since it looks like they tend to be Mon and Tues), but I'm curious what the crowds during the day of an HHN are like. Are they very busy because of the weekend? Do people tend to buy tickets for both (i.e. a regular ticket and an HHN ticket for the same day)? Or is the park generally more quiet because people don't like the shorter hours? Basically, is it like the Disney MNSSHP and these party days are lower crowd days or not?
We are hoping to stay onsite at RPR in Sept, but I think the only way that it would make sense (i.e we only change hotels once) would be for it on a weekend. We have little kids, so we're not interested in HHN, and would probably be done with the park around 5pm anyway (we don't take afternoon breaks).
It is totally crazy to go on a weekend (Fri and Sat) and not do HHN?
OR should we just skip staying onsite and go to US and IoA on a Mon and Tues (with no express passes and early entry)?

hhn begins sept 16/17 for the opening weekend

there are no wednesday night hhn happening in september.
sept 22 is the start for thursdays being in the line up days for hhn.

weekends normally can have crowds if the weather is good as more locals would be going then.

saturdays will have more crowds due to the hard ticket event, but that doesn't start to happen until the afternoon.
many that are coming to the parks for hhn that evening like to catch the rides during the day.
you can expect crowds to pick up around 2:30-3:00 saturday/sunday afternoon.

hhn is only held at the studios.


there are more people that only buy the hhn ticket and not the day ticket.


you should be fine if you go in september during the week.
