Cast of Adventurers
Me: Shelly Disney Nut and wanting to go back to WDW for 12 plus years.
DH: Warren Converted Disney Nut
DS: Brandon, Age 7 Being raised right (a Disney Nut)
The alarm went off right on time and I did not listen to my family when they compared me to a drill sergeant. In fact I was taking a great deal of pride in the fact that we were right on schedule. We had seen everything on my carefully planned itinerary thus far and the troops needed realize who was in control. Little did I know that a mutiny was in the works because my dear sweet compliant husband dug in his heels and said he wanted a real breakfast. Cold pop tarts, fruit and nutter butter cookies were not cutting it. This was not on my preprinted schedule but I could afford to be a little generous. OK so maybe he threatened me with leaving me with Brandon and going off by himself. Now I love my little monster but his health problems required that he have a stroller and I needed my ECV so unless I wanted to try and entertain him in the hotel room all day I decided to be the bigger person. It is quite an image of me trying to both drive an ECV and push a stroller at the same time. OUCH!
So we were late for early entry to the Magic Kingdom. Not that I'm bitter. I'm really not. OK honey you can stop sending me flowers at work, I forgive you. Because we were late and we were doing E- night the next night we skipped over Space Mountain. Off we headed to Dumbo. Now Dumbo is one of the few rides where the disabled can bypass the lines but I always feel awkward about that so since it was early in the day I decided to stand in the line. This is difficult for me but not impossible. Unfortunately I don't walk very fast. So when we finally got released from the holding pen I had maneuvered myself to be one of the first people out in the hopes of grabbing a close elephant. Unfortunately each time I would get to one, some parent, this is the parent mind you not the child, would push me out of the way. By the time I finally got on a free Dumbo everyone had to wait longer than necessary because they were in such a rush and I was so slow. I mean I think they all had their ears plugged up by their flights since the ride attendant said there are enough Dumbos for everyone. Lesson learned. Next year I'll just feel tacky and bypass the line.
I feel bad for the demise of poor Mr Toad but I do like the Winnie the Pooh ride. It wasn't one that we rode over and over but it was well done. No morning in the MK would be complete without Peter Pan and then we took in Legend of the Lion King. I wish I could have seen the full program on Broadway. I know it has mixed reviews but we liked it. Brandon and Warren rode the carousel. I stayed on terra firma because I did not see the needed hoist to get me on one of the horses.
About now it was time for our priority seating for the Crystal Palace. Ours and everyone else's. People were packed on the porch, the stairs, the ramp and hanging out into the street. I don't know if they over booked or if people were eating slow that day but we had a good 30 minute wait with priority seating in the off season. Yikes! I would have hated to be there during peak season. What really made the wait enjoyable were those lovely little love bugs. They were everywhere in pairs. Now being from a desert climate we hadn't ever seen anything quite like it so I asked the very intelligent question of one of our neighbors, "Are they doing what I think they are doing?" Actually, once I realized that they were more interested in each other and weren't going to bite us I could ignore them pretty easily. Not that they were all that easy to ignore since they landed on everything. I mean on our heads, hats, stroller, backpacks, shoes, shoulders and hair. If it was a semi-flat service they were on it. But I could live with it since they weren't biting. You just shoed them away and off they flew in tandem. Actually once we got used to them I thought it was kind of interesting.
We spent the first part of the afternoon in Adventureland. Warren and Brandon climbed the Swiss Family tree house. Brandon didn't remember doing that at Disneyland so he thought it was great. We caught the new Tiki Birds. I do wish they would have a full rendition of "In the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room" but other than that I thought it was an improvement. We skipped the Jungle Cruise and headed to an old favorite Pirates.
We meandered over to Splash Mountain and grabbed a fast pass. By now the fatigue was setting in because Warren accidentally put in 1 of our passes twice and so we only had 2 passes. Luckily I checked it but I wasn't very kind when pointing out his mistake. He good naturedly went back to get the third one while I stewed. However, I got back some Disney Magic and we took the train while waiting. I decided at that moment I loved the DIS when we saw some poor gentleman with a Disney ECV trying to get up the disabled ramp and couldn't. He was using his injured knee to try to push it. My sweet husband pushed his machine up. Every time I saw someone in a park ECV I realized how superior Walker's were. And I wouldn't have known about it except for the DIS. Thank you!
The cast member called someone for the other gentleman and he sat and waited for them to come and either fix or replace his machine. We got on the train and he was still in the same place after we had ridden all the way around. We gave him Walkers number and he said he'd call them. We then got in the fast pass line at Splash Mountain. In all reality I think most rides are superior at Disneyland but this is one that is far better at WDW. From the fact that I can ride it without slamming my knees to the surprise drops I just gotta love this ride. Afterwards Brandon got his picture taken with some characters including Brer Bear. That cast member was great! He grabbed Brandon's hat and put it on his nose. Poor Brandon was jumping to try and get it back. Eventually he took pity and gave him the hat back and posed for pictures. Mom and Dad were in stitches.
Then we buzzed over to Tomorrowland and caught the transit authority. I will never quite forgive Disneyland for taking out the people mover. It's just such a pleasant relaxing ride. Then Brandon practiced his driving skills on the speedway. Then we dashed over to Mickey's Toontown Fair. We went through Mickey's house and heard rumors that the wait to meet the big cheese himself was over an hour. I think that rumor was spread by cast members that wanted to get home. A few people bailed saying the wait was too long but Brandon really wanted to see Mickey even when we explained how long we would have to wait. We were glad we did because the wait was not even half an hour. We rode Barnstormer (a pretty rough ride for those over 5 feet tall) and then Brandon got wetter than Shamu at Donald's boat. Brandon and I finished out the day by riding the teacups twice. My motion sick suffering spouse stood on the sidelines and cheered us on.
Warren and I grabbed dinner at the Cotton Mill while Brandon slept. We were actually in at a decent hour but I guess all the running was starting to wear on us. Well we knew we needed the rest for tomorrow at Animal Kingdom and E-night. Set the alarm dear.
