Today was another slower day. I like these better. We took our bus to a working farm. The owner met us for a pasta-making class and everyone had a lot of fun doing this.
View from the farm of the Tuscan countryside
We also got a tour of the winery and saw their beautiful cows. The kids enjoyed feeding them.
Again this was another very hot day where we ate outside with no fans or opportunity for some AC. The lunch would have been much more enjoyable if we could have been cooler. The kids made some olive oil. They could add as much rosemary, mint, parsley, basil, thyme and sage as they wanted. They joined us for lunch and sweat was literally dripping off their faces as they sat down for a hot lunch in 90+ degree weather.
Beautiful area
One of two pasta dishes, very good with saffron and peas
Another
Dessert was chocolate mousse, panna cotta or gelato
Again, unlimited sodas and wine
Several people had inquired about going to Pisa so the day before the guides took a headcount and arranged for a different bus to pick the interested people up at the farm for the 1 1/2 hour ride to Pisa, stay for less than an hour and then the 1 1/2 hour return and the would be dropped off directly at our dinner location, the medieval village of Certaldo. The other people went with the guides back to the hotel for some swimming and relaxation. We did the latter and the kids really enjoyed the pool. The cost was 35 euros for 3 people to take the bus to Pisa. The guides were awesome for doing this.
The dinner was again fantastic, great food, unlimited sodas and wine. So many dinners and lunches had alcohol included. The servers were dressed in medieval costumes and brought around bowls of meat, salad and veges.
The last 30 minutes we were entertained by an Italian folk group who sang, danced and played instruments. Most of us danced with them as well and several men were pulled and used as part of the entertainment.
