Wednesday, January 7, 2004 Day 4
You may have noticed that we're kicking the patootie out of this trip. That is only because of me. I'm the one who tells Mickey what time to call, and turns on the lights, and does all those really NOISY things that have to be down first thing in the morning. Like turn on the weather channel, loud. I'm evil. I love Disney World, what do you want from me? At least I didn't insist on matching purple shirts- and no one here has a clipboard. Soon enough, this is all going to unravel. So I would like to enjoy Day 4, the Beginning of the End.
All along, Mark has been a 'princess'. Eric and I are on Disney-level morning routine. This involves a shower, slapping some toothpaste on your toungue, and tying your shoes. First, Mark wears contacts. I never knew how much time corrective lenses took! And he takes 3 hour showers. He thinks the parks will still be there at 10:00! He's wrong, right? I've always thought they dissappear at 9:10. So, I've been able to hussle enough for everyone so far, but I can't keep it up forever. Let's hope Mark is right, and the parks are still there.
This was Animal Kingdom day. A whole day! We've never done that before. But, it was supposed to be nice and cool (SUPPOSED to be cool) and I was looking forward to seeing more of this park than ever before. I'm not sure how many busses we had to wait- maybe between 5 MK and 1 Epcot (it's always less than 1 Epcot!). We got to the park in plenty of time (amazing!), and realized it was really COLD! I brought gloves to Florida, but never bothered to bring them to the park. Oh well. We headed to the Safari as soon as the park opened, and had a great trip. Tons of animals! We walked the Pangani Forest Trail, and had fun watching the gorillas landscaping.
Tough to be a Bug was fun, but we happened to be sitting INSIDE the fog machine, so we missed a bit of the show. We rode Dinosaur, then got lunch at Flame Tree. We all got a salad with chicken on it. It was very very good. It warmed up a bit, but was still very cool.
I never noticed how much detail is in the cars at Chester & Hester's. I was captivated by the amount of stuff in the cars. We rode Dinosaur a bunch, and Primevil Whirl a couple of times. We couldn't bring ourselves to do Kali River Rapids (which Eric and I love). The Maharajah Jungle Trek was fun, the tigers were very active. Wonders of Life was MUCH better than I thought it would be (edit- I know I ramble, but I'm not THAT bad.. I meant Flights of Wonder, the bird show). All day we kept seeing Team Cinderella Backpack. The dad was wearing the backpack for the group- I got a picture. I promise to share these soon.
We rode the Safari one more time, then headed out of the park. We had PS at Boma, so we got the bus to AKL. We walked around for a while, enjoying the animals. Very nice place! It was time for dinner, and I was excited! I started with the coconut curry chicken soup. WOW! This is my new favorite food. I got the recipe, and I make a MEAN coconut curry chicken soup. If you want to try it, drop by! I'm telling you, it is GOOD! UNfortunately, I wasn't thrilled about the rest of the meal. I found some stuff I liked, but nothing thrilled me. Except for the desserts and the soup (which I can make
), I don't need to return. Our entertainment at dinner was the pair of older ladies who sat next to us. They sampled such exotic fare as macaroni and cheese, chicken fingers, and water. While they ate this new and strange food, they commented on how nice it was to try something different. Now that I am writing this, maybe they were FROM Africa, so that would've been the weird food. The chicken fingers WERE exotic for them. Now I get it.
We were very full after this meal, and waddled all the way back to our room.
