Sunday 7th July

Cast:
Me- Morven (aka Undylad)
Suzanne – DW
Kerri – DD (7)
Liam – DS (5)

We woke around 03:15am, told the children it was still nighttime. Woke again at 05:59 and got up this time. Off to the Food Court and try and figure out what the children would eat. Muffins for Liam, Turnover for Kerri and Suzanne and a Breakfast Bagel for myself.

We headed to Animal Kingdom on the 07:30am bus. We were right at the turnstiles. They were holding up till the park opening time of 09:00. We watched all the people heading in for Breakfast at Donald’s. The talking palm tree turned up and gave an American family a hard time. Great fun. :)

When the park opened, we were off touring plans memorised. Straight to Kilimanjaro Safaris. We all really enjoyed the ride. There were lots of animals out early to see us. It did seem a little bit too rushed though. Next up was across to Kali River Rapids. We almost got lost in the queuing system, as it was so empty there was no one else to follow. We climbed into one of the rafts with a young American couple; they obviously did not know what they were letting themselves in for. We spent all they time laughing at each other getting wet and Suzanne desperately trying to and failing to keep dry. :p
We got so wet the first time round, so when we were asked if we wanted to stay on we all shouted “Yes!”. This time any part that were not already wet got it this time. The ride broke down a couple of times this time, once with us on one of the conveyors, the kids were not impressed as we were getting rather warm from one of those gas flame torches. When we were asked again if we wanted to stay on again, but this time the children said “No!”. :)
Our next target was Dinosaur, Liam decided that he did not want to go on, even the cast members tried to coax him on, but failed, so I stayed with Liam and I child swapped with Suzanne when she came off with Kerri. Kerri came out of the ride looking a little white and very quite. I disappeared and took my turn to ride it. I think that this is a scary and very rough ride. I am glad Liam did not ride it, if I had done the ride before Kerri; I would have not let her ride it. When I came out Kerri was still quieter than normal. We carried on to It’s Tough to be A Bug. What a great show. Unfortunately Liam was not impressed. So we were just in the door of our first park on our first day and we have upset both our children in the first few rides. Hmmm, not a great start. I am sure things will improve !?

Lunch was now becoming a necessity; it must have involved Chicken Strips and fries. Suzanne and myself thought we needed to slow things down before we turned both our children into gibbering wreaks before the first day was out. We managed to see Pocahontus and Her Forrest Friends and then walk straight into Festival of the Lion King, perfect just what we needed. The kids were getting tired so we headed back to the hotel.

The family decision (the children) was to go to the pool. Our first thunderstorm of the holiday stopped play after an hour and a half of splashing fun. :)

We changed and headed to Epcot. The rain had emptied the park so we just walked onto Spaceship Earth. I still enjoyed the ride. We then went for a walk through the park and headed up having Fish and Chips in Harry Ramsden’s. We are adventurous, not. :) I wanted to take a walk to the Boardwalk, but the children’s “I’m tired” calls won the day. We headed back to the hotel and quickly light out for 09:30pm.

Tomorrow – Disney MGM or Let’s Forget the Touring
Plans

Hi Morven

I've done the 'scare the pants of the kids on the first ride' trick before, and it is frustrating. Hope they enjoyed MGM - Just off to find out

Bev

What a way to start the day on Kali river rapids. I'm off to see if you did enjoy MGM too.

Oh yes - you just have to do Harry Ramsdens - every holiday! We always do!

I am not from England and had always wondered if the fish and chips at the Rose and Crown are authentic. Are they similar to what you get in England?
I swear I could live off of them!:)

I am enjoying your trip reports Morven.

I thought the Dinosaur ride was scary too although the rest of the family enjoyed it. When we looked at the photo of the ride afterwards everyone else was laughing and pointing at the dinosaur and I had my head between my legs!!

Well I don't seee why it should..... it never does for me :(

Great report, Morven. I agree re Dinosaur. I enjoy it but it's far to rough, dark and noisy for any child with a nervous or imaginative disposition imho (I tried to get our Julie on it last time and she would have hated it.)

Fish and Chips in WorldShowcase? Are you Scots made of money !!!!

(Samantha, they taste just like home but are the price of an average two bedroomed semi-detached home by comparison!)

Heyspotty dog- we are looking for a house. Do you think we could trade an order of fish and chips for one of the 2 bedroom homes you talked about. Here in Boston $300,000 doesn't get you much!:(

Luxury! ........ being asked if you want to stay on and ride again :) !!

When you looked back at your morning in Animal Kingdom, do the children say they enjoyed it?

Yes, they say they had a great time but Kerri is still not impressed with Dinosaur. ;) or with us for taking her with us.
You will see that she rallies well in the later trip reports, if I ever get round to typing them up.

Great report Morven - glad to read that Kerri cheers up :)

Dinosaur can be a bit traumatic I think - I loved it, but for a little one I think it might be a bit too much, but you just dont know till you've tried do you?

Off to next part...............

Don't feel too guilty about traumatising the kids their first day in the parks . . . two years ago we headed straight on to Earthquake in USF our first day in the parks . . .and Katie was hysterical by the time the tram ride had stopped:rolleyes: She denies it now, but I did point out to her "do you really think mum and dad would go on a ride where we would get hurt?" (looking more at her father, mind, cos he doesn't like coasters). That seemed to pacify her, but the next ride was Jaws and we couldn't get her off that. I think it's a question of perception and the unknown:D

Glad the day was a success, though:D

Thanks for the fab report - luv reading them!!!
