David's Rental for February, 2017

I am in the David's Rental queue for February 2017. Villas at Contemporary....How long should I wait for an opening?

It's really up to you. We were in the same position since we needed 3 separate studios at BWV and would only book if they could secure all 3. I spoke to David's directly and they were super helpful and understanding. My family decided to give it a week since we were still more than 6 months out and the reservations came thru about 24 hours later. I can't say that will be your case, but for you feel you can wait, go for it. For us we felt comfortable since we could always book thru Disney at a later date.

Yes, they have confirmed there is quite a lot of "available" rooms. Just waiting for a member to have enough (202) points.

Then I would suggest waiting until mid December if you are also able to make a cash backup reservation to cancel if it comes through...members should be evaluating their finances/rentals around then with dues coming out.

You're looking for a substantial number of points, so that's at least half your issue. The other half is that it's not an attractive rental, as it will be most attractive for a member with a lot of non-premium points. No one with premium points will want to take on a BLT booking under 7 months out, as they sacrifice $2 per point in home resort booking premium. So, really, David's needs an AKV, Saratoga or OKW owner with 200+ points.

It's already in the 7 month booking window now. If he doesn't have the points available for it now, I wouldn't feel confident that they would be coming.

It could happen. But it'll be someone making a late decision to rent their Saratoga points. Anyone with a UY that will allow them to book the 11 month window at BLT or another premium resort for next fall won't pick up your request.

Owners can pick and choose which rental to fulfill, even via a broker. If I owned BLT points, I would avoid booking inside 7 months save in an emergency. There is far higher demand for DVC rental than there are members willing to rent points. Dave's is just a go between.

There are several members on the DVC Rent/Trade board who have points for rentals in February if you are open to private party. Someone who does private party may only charge $13/14 for a rental. Even with "premium" points, because there's no fee to pay to David's.

Give it a little more time. All I will say is that a significant amount of points should be available through David's within the next week if all goes well.

I don't have an answer for you, but I was in your position 2 weeks ago. I worked through them, picked my timeline, they were very helpful. I didn't realize until we got to the end that they had a queue. I thought I could get it booked almost ASAP. In a few days I lost the availability for the room I wanted which was annoying.

I ended up contacting DVCrequest.com. They charge a little bit more, but sounded a lot more confident in the timeline. You also dont have a deposit until they get the reservation. Once I worked out my stay, which took a bit to figure out what I wanted as my ideal stay was booked, it took like 24 hours to get a confirmed reservation. They did the availability checks etc over email. I did speak with someone initially.

Davids was slightly easier to work with as they did things over the phone and checked availability real time, but I couldn't get a completed deal after waiting 3-5 days and lost availability.
