I just wanted to say THANK YOU to David for taking the time to do that segment. I thought it was really great and I got a really good sense of the village they have even though I didn't have any visuals. It has inspired me to go poke around on their website and learn more about what they do.

I also wanted to say that I am planning on purchasing shirts, but need to wait another week as there are some money issues I am having at the moment. I am hoping the shirts will still be available next week too.

Oh good, I'm glad you liked the segment. Touring the village made a huge impact on both me and my girls. DD10 princess: did not want to go. She was very nervous to go to the village, at the end of the tour she said to me "I wish I could stay here." Susie, really converted me, and I'm looking towards trying to do a trip down just to volunteer.

Guilty for checking their website too!!

It was a GREAT segment! I had such great images, sounds like something I would love to see/ volunteer!

I didnt see the piece but my 5 yr old Godson sent a week there mid- Nov and it was an amazing experience. It really does make a huge difference to the kids and more importantly the famillies.

Oh yeah and did I mention you live sooo far way upstate NY (lol...just messin with ya) Seriously though, you are about a 7-8 hour drive from us here in Long Island. How's the weather been this winter? I used to live in Albany and I don't miss it. I can't imagine what it's like in Rochester. It's cold here in LI tonite though, a low of 7.

I really liked it too, but did I miss the end or did it stop when you guys were on the carousel? It just seemed to stop suddenly.

yeah, thanks Dave- it was great. One thing I really regret is not ever going there and volunteering during my college program in 96. I always heard great things about it. :thumbsup2

It was a great show and your DD's were both excellent and provided some youthful vitality to the show.
Hopefully you'll have some other reports up :thumbsup2

Similarly inspired, that I'm working with another UK DISer so that we can both purchase the t-shirts and share the costs.
Pete's plea in spite of the distance really struck a chord with me

I had no idea about the scale of the operation and didn't know they took children from other countries. What an amazing organisation!

Thanks for the time and effort you took in to recording that segment and thanks to Pete for including it.

Thanks so much for the kind words Reid. I'm hoping to have some more reports, and I love including the girls in the reports too. We all have fun doing it.

I really enjoyed this segment, too. It seems like such a wonderful place for these kids to go. I have to admit, more than one time I had tears in my eyes...

I almost broke down myself at the end of the tour.

Me too - particularly at the part where she was talking about the 60k+ stars in the "sky". I cried like a baby. You did such a great job, David.

Thanks Dave, I was really enjoying it and didn't want to miss the end.
I haven't heard from Will, Robin. If you PM me your e-mail address I can send you the end of the segment. It's only about 3 min longer.

David,

Thank you so much for doing this segment.

I went as an assistant with a Wish Family this past October. We had a wonderful time.

GKTW is such a wonderful place. I miss it sooooo much.

Give Kids the World is so much more than a fun place to stay...it represents hope for so many families. For many families, it is the first "real" vacation they get to have. For some families, it will be the last vacation with their sick child. GKTW provides something for these families to look forward to...to anticipate...and also to look back on for years and years.

They have an open invitation to all Wish Families to come back whenever we can get back to Orlando. We can go find our star...and have some ice cream! (And do anything besides sleep there, really!)

It is a wonderful place, as you know. But it means so, so much to the families. As Lauren, our Wish Teen, said, "I didn't even feel disabled!" For a child that won't ever walk, that was a profound statement.

For anyone interested in reading about Wish Trips specifically, with information about GKTW, too...you can check out our Wish Trippers Unite thread...dedicated to our Wish families as they plan and discuss their trip...and life with different struggles.

Wish Trip Thread

Thank you so much!!! I really, really appreciate it!!!!
