David Gest - why?

Okay, I'm just curious! I was just in London (I was there in late April, we had been there in September too) and had very few stations at the B&B to choose from. But one of the stations had David Gest on it, some new reality show.

Why? I found him scary.

Then again, I don't get Peter and Jordan, Posh, and the dozens or so other reality type people! But out of all, I really didn't understand why David Gest seems so popular there!

Thank you - I have not seen that. I found him really just...like a kid, on the portion of the episode I watched (waiting for the news, which then I found out doesn't come on at 11pm!)

Since doing the 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here' show David Gest has got it into his head that he is actually popular in the UK

He's also been a judge on a soap star singing contest and is currently a judge on a show to choose Sandy and Danny in a West End production of Grease.

On top of that he has his own show - mainly a self publicity type show where cameras follow him around the UK. Bit sad really.

apparently he's heavily investing in the stage show of Grease, hence his close involvement.

a firend of mine saw him in a local coffee shop a while back (what was he doing in Bexleyheath???) and he was very firendly to everyone, posing for pics and signing autographs.

You all can certainly have him if you want, I just wasn't sure why you did! He did come across differently than I thought, more like an 8 year old boy.

I guess it doesn't take too much to be on a show like "I'm a Celebrity"...I'm not into reality shows hardly at all (I do like American Idol), but I've noticed that a lot of your celebrities come from those shows (like Big Brother 1, 2, 17, 18, not sure what it's up to now!) I do like your gossip magazines, even though I don't know many of the people in them. I did see a HUGE photo of David Gest kissing someone from that reality show I think (he met her on it). Eww, and ewwww!

As long as people keep buying the magazines and watching the shows these people will stay celebs - it's 100% the fault of the public for giving these people careers as minor celebs who do nothing except pose for photos and go on reidculous shows. It's a vicious circle.

Point taken. I do love OK and Hello magazines. (lots of pretty pics, I don't care who is in them - though it seems most don't have much of a talent per se than just big chests and reality TV careers). But David Gest? I don't need to see him in full color on TV or in the mag!

Denise, my comment wasn't aimed at you, sorry if it came across like that. As you said, you don't buy the mags for these 'celebs', it's the people that do that sustain the 'careers' of such people. There is an ex reality show personality in this country called Jade Goodie who sells record numbers of magazines when she's on the cover and she's famous for being incredibly stupid and racist, little else! She's made millions because for some reason people want to know every little thing she does and watch every TV show she's on and read every magazine she's in. It's a very strange society we live in today, sadly.

I wasn't thinking you meant me, though I am a little guilty too! We have reality shows, but many of the ones that have come across the pond - like Big Brother, I'm a Celebrity, etc. haven't survived. I also don't consider reality show contestants "celebrities", though I know they are HUGE in the UK.

I've sen Jade in the magazines, I didn't know what she's done. Of course, there is Kerry also, and Jordin, it's sort of like Anna Nicole Smith to me - where it doesn't seem they've done much, but they are very popular anyway.

personally I adore David Gest, hes an incredibly funny eccentric man and has lived an amazing life. When the ultimately talented but reclusive stars like Michael jackson are your best friends you're bound to have some hilarious tales. He has been an extremely successful producer off his ownbat for years and I think its great that we're allowed access into such a great personality.

When i first heard about David Guest i thought i was going to hate he but he is so nice and funny. He is now a judge on grease is the word which is like american idol but with the musical grease in mind. The winners end up in the west end show as Danny and Sandy. Anyway he is just so nice and caring towards everyone, other than one of the other judges, lol but thats funny.

As for Peter and Jordan you have to have followed there stories to understand them both. Jordan has been through so much in her life and i find her lovely and caring.

I don't think many people make it in this country after appearing on reality shows, yes a few people slip though but most are there and gone the next. Yes we have the odd one and its mostly the media who makes there career, one Jade goody was in the lime light for years but now i think more people hate her now.

I've been to London several times since May 2005, so I've actually seen quite a bit (I know she's had issues with her son, etc.). She seems very nice and a good mom, I just didn't understand why she was famous. Then again, we had Anna Nicole - and I wasn't sure on her either!

David Gest also came across nicer than I'd have thought, but I didn't find him TV-show worthy. But obviously he's been embraced by the UK. I didn't see the Grease show, I saw an ad for it, as well as an ad for the show where regular people get naked? Something like that!

no worries - Vaginica was the name David insisted was of his personal maid when he appeared in 'I'm a celeb' he had the most ridiculous sense of humour which is why it probably appeals to the Brits and Albino heights was a name for a hotel he reckoned he'd been to where only albinos stayed, definately not PC but thats why I find him soo funny. Also because he's had an extremely interesting life you're never quite sure whether he's kidding you or not

Jordan started out as a glamour model and built up a big career round that then she met Peter (Aussie singer) on a reality show and the wed and make a career together singing but i think its mostly to do with the likeable factor, they are a nice couple and can be funny, they have their own show. (You might already know that?)

Gotcha! I think I've actually heard of the Vaginica name, maybe from a magazine article about him! I love British humor, especially many of the newer shows like The Office and Extras, and am glad we actually got a good version of The Office here in America (with them being able to be non-PC on network TV!)

That said, I didn't find Gest that interesting - but I can see where he might appeal to some. I think. I was just surprised to find him a sensation anywhere in the world!

Yes, I think both Posh/Becks and Jordan/Peter are having their own shows in the US too. I might take a peek at Jordan/Peters but that isn't the type of show I really watch.

I remember reading the magazines recently and they mentioned "Katie Price" and I was trying to figure out if it was his first wife, when I Googled and found out she was the same woman.
