He's been reporting from Kuwait. I just put the Today Show on late and I have no idea how he died.

He leaves a wife and 3 DDs...I think including a set of 9 year old twins. :(

"A native of Edina, Minn., Bloom is survived by his wife, Melanie, and three daughters, 9-year-old twins Nicole and Christine, and three-year-old Ava." :(

I just heard.... that's so incredibly sad. Thoughts and prayers with his family.

Yes, it is very sad. It seems like I knew this man. Saw him report everyday from that tank.

Bless his family.

Solidad was remarkable with reporting this first thing this morning. I'm sure it was a sad day for all involved at NBC including Matt and Katie BUT Solidad was his partner! She did honor him well -- I know it must of been hard for her!
:(

Tim Russert gave him a nice tribute on "Meet The Press". What a wonderful reporter. I had a concern for him but did not expect him to die this way. Of course, the gas mask use and the sand storm experience may have contributed to his pulmonary embolism. God Bless his family.

It is so sad. Out of all of the embedded reporters, he was my favorite. The images of his smiles as he sat upon the tank as it went through Iraq are images I will never forget. I feel so for his family.

I am REALLY going to miss his reports. He was absolutely wonderful. The men/women he was embedded with LOVED him. He really put a human touch on his reports. You could really tell he had so much respect of the men and women he was with. He will be truely missed!!!::(:

Mark has posted this on the community board. I thought I would post this here. Thanks Mark

I was so shocked when I heard the news this morning. I feel terrible for his wife and young children. I thought the Today team did a good job this morning considering how difficult it must have been for them.

I didn't realize the man in the desert reporting was the same man from the Today show on the weekends. He seemed like a nice person, my prayers are with his family.

My family is shocked and saddened as well.
We watch the Today show 7 days a week and it will seem very strange to watch it without David on with Soledad each weekend. He was so down-to-earth and personable in his style.

You have to wonder if the stress of what he was going through added to his condition.

My heart goes out to the remaining journalists covering the war as part of their job. I think they need to come home periodically for a much-needed break.

This situation has got to be heart-breaking for Katie. She lost her husband when her girls were about the same age.
Just goes to show when your times up, it's up.....
God's peace to his family and friends.

I was not familiar with this reporter. I do not watch the Today show.

I am so sorry to hear of his death. Prayers for his wife and children.

My prayers are also with his family. This morning I missed the Today Show and heard that he had died on FOX news. I turned on MSNBC and heard the report on him, which was very touching. I LOVED watching his reporting. He really did a fantastic job in Iraq. His death has left me so depressed today. I also wonder if being there contributed to his early death. So very sad that he leaves behind a wife and 3 young daughters. Joan

he died of a pulminary embolism
I found that in layman's terms that's a blood clot.

I too really liked his work in Iraq and I thought he did the best overall job of the "embedded" reporters that I've seen. Very sad. It's also scary that he was only a year older than I am.

my class will more than likley be talking about this, the last class was about war reporting

I have a feeling the conditions did play a part in his death. One contributing factor to blood clots can be staying immobilized in cramped quarters for long periods of time. (Remember the comments about long flights in coach awhile back?). He had been riding around in the cramped Humvee. He also had complained of leg pain for the last few days. I also wonder whether being in that horrific sand storm could have contributed. They also mentioned being dehydrated could thicken his blood and lead to clots.

Then again, sometimes it is just your time. Just so odd he survived an attack last week to die anyway. :(
