I've never really followed David Blaine, just watched a show or two about him. Anyway, with this latest stunt I have to ask even though I'm going to sound like a doofus. We all know what happens to your skin when you're in the water for a few hours, so what happens to his after a week in there? For some reason I'm totally creeped out about this. (can you tell I don't want to work today!?)

I thought the exact same thing when i saw him on Good Morning America today....
He's going to be one big prune! :lmao:

They talked to him on GMA this morning and he discussed the affect on his skin. He is in salt water and said that his skin is becoming very tender. I suspect that the lack of real food will also have some ill affects on his skin as he loses body fat.

I enjoy watching him, but much prefer his "street magic" to these stunts.

I GUESS THAT I AM NOT UP TO DATE ON MY "WORLD" EVENTS!!

I LIKE HIS STREET MAGIC MUCH BETTER THAN THESE LITTLE STUNTS, BUT I AM CLUELESS ON THIS ONE... WHAT IS IT HE IS DOING? :confused3

Well, I thought he was holding his breath under water for 9 minutes which is what is says in the ad on TV for the special on Monday.

And the purpose of this would be........? Are we that hard up for entertainment?

I was thinking the exact same thing!
I don't find these "stunts" even remotely interesting/entertaining. I guess someone does.... :confused3

::yes::

ITA.

Whats the point?

I see the commercials for him but I'm kid of miffed by the whole "Watch me 'die' on live TV deal..." To each his own!

OP- Your children are gorgeous!

Have y'all seen his magic show? I think it was on TLC. He actually levitates off the ground!! How in the world does he do that? He is always in the middle of the street or a sidewalk somewhere, so there can't be any hidden strings? :confused3

My magician friend says most of his street magic is staged. Excessive camera editing, use of actors etc, etc. Stunts like his current one are just that, stunts.

ETA the levitation is the 'Balducci levitation' if you google it you can see how it is done.

But on the flip side most magicians are thrilled that Blaine has made magic 'cool' again and most think he is pretty technically competent.

The magician community seems to have made Criss Angel their new punching bag.

As for me, I get no excitement by watching a guy "drowned alive."

I thought the street magic was cool....about 5 years ago!

Now, I don't care if he dies on a platform in Europe or under a water bubble or where ever he pleases!

Anyone remember the series, I think on TLC, where they had Teller from Penn and Teller explaining how the tricks are all done? They even had the levitating he did as well as the platform trick...so I'm not all that impressed by David Blaine anymore!

ALso, I think it is physically impossible for someone to hold their breath for 9 minutes without causing brain damage. 4 minutes without oxygen is about all the brain can take...........not that I will be watching, cause I don't give 2 cents whether he can hold his breath that long or not. I guess you just have to watch the last 10 minutes or so....I can't imagine what they will be doing for 2 hours. :confused3

In his street magic shows he is so intense & creepy in a totally sexy way. I like that David Blaine so I intend to avoid "this" David Blaine.

Penn & Teller creep me out, esp. after I saw Penn's sex swing--they can't compare to David Blaine's hotness. I had been clinging to the idea that Penn was celibate & asexual & the swing destroyed that happy place.
