I’m already thinking ahead for our next trip and I’m wondering how Dave’s DVC Rentals is. Staying at Bay Lake Tower would be so convenient and when I price it out on Dave’s DVC Rentals and then add park tickets, the price is very doable for us.

Has anyone used this service?
If yes, please give me the good, the bad and the ugly.

Thanks 🙂

Slo, lots of us on the DVC boards have rented their points to others using David’s. I have twice and both experiences were good for me. I assume it was good for the renters, I certainly hope so.

Just be aware that you are probably looking at standard view, and it’s very likely you could be booking lake view, there are more of those.

I wish you good luck as you make this decision. It’s a big one.

I’ve used them and other rental agencies, no complaints.

I prefer doing it person to person on the rent/trade board here. For one it is usually a bit cheaper, and some owners have better terms (like ability to reschedule before the points expire). And a few of our rental picks the agencies did not have the inventory to cover specific home resort right at the 11 month mark, but we were able to find it here.

Thanks Bobbi!
I was looking at the standard view studio room - that would be good enough for us. So, if you request standard view you could get lake view?

No, you may not find an owner in time to get the standard view. A lake view may be all that’s available. Renters often want the lesser point costs, but it’s not always possible.

Yep, we've used them. The one thing I like about them is they are honest. Like they will most likely let you know that a lake view studio is going to be more realistic. They don't let you get your hopes up about working miracles.

100% this

Genie+ is right on. I've used the board sponsor and Dave's. I won't use the sponsor again- three strikes situation. Dave's was fine. But, by far direct on the DIS has been the best for us.

Thank you for everyone’s replies.
We’re not returning right away - I just like getting some ducks in a row so when we decide on a date I know exactly what path we want to take 🙂👍🏼

Have used David's a couple of times successfully. The 2nd time we had booked for Oct 2020, and even though the DVC resorts were open we decided it was too risky; David's was able to sell my reservation on short notice and gave me a full credit good for 3 years. I was not as successful rescheduling my May 2020 DVC rental through an owner on the DVC rent/trade board here and was out over $1000.

DVC rental store has a LOT of confirmed reservations available to take over, I am doing that with 4 nights at the GF labor day weekend.

Wow that stinks. DVC probably helped them, and quite possibly they double dipped on profits with those points :(

We've used them a couple of times to rent out points that would otherwise have been lost because of travel restrictions.
As a renter we were very pleased with their service. The only negative is that they use Paypal whose exchange rates when we convert back to GBP (we are in the UK) are very poor.

They rescheduled for me once, from May to the end of my other DVC rental Oct 2020 trip, but with some health issues and no vaccines yet, we couldn't use those dates either.

Oh so sorry. Glad to hear they did try to help.

This is probably the biggest difference between DVC rental and cash rooms. Cash rooms offer flexibility to easily reschedule or cancel.

We've rented DVC points for one trip through the board here. It was significantly cheaper than Dave's DVC.

I was just looking at DVC options yesterday!
We have an older/ bigger family now so no more squeezing into a room. I always liked the idea of having DVC or timeshare to accommodate big annual trips as our family changes but it has been sooooo long since I entertained it I feel like I need to relearn. Best step is probably to try a few out so that's where I'm at right now, cautiously curious & listening.

Not even sure where to rent, I looked at the business affiliated with the DIS but there is a required drop-down where I need to pick an agent. How on earth do I do that, what if one is better than another for my situation? I'll look at Dave's.

I have always rented my excess points directly.
I looked into using Dave's a couple times and I still had to do most of the work, and they took 5 dollars a point....

Worked with several renters to get through covid with everybody coming out happy, happy happy.

DVC demand has continued to climb.
Depending on when in the use year your rental is and availability sometimes owners can not help you reschedule. Some DVC resort are all but sold out before the 7 month window. This make rescheduling all but impossible at less that 7 months. OKW, SSR may not be as much of an issue.

I have been lucky enough to be able to reschedule twice for renters, out side of covid, both were staying at SSR.

Regardless of if you go with Dave's or an owner, read the contract completely. Make sure you understand the terms completely. Don't assume because it is Disney, or your friend one time was able to, that you will be able to.
Do your due diligence and make sure the "owner" you are renting from is in fact the deeded owner.
Ask questions. Lots of them. If the owner will not help you before you rent, that might be a sign of what to expect after they have receive your non refundable payment.

You can save about 3 to 5 dollars per point renting direct.
Some people would prefer to piece of mind of renting from a company.

Either way book early.....

I'm was just looking at booking BLT for April vacation, the standard studios are already sold out for the week I was looking for.....

Dreams Unlimited is not the sponsor for DVC part, the DVC rental store is. No agent choosing required!

We've used Davids several times, In fact we JUST rented multiple studios for a family trip next January at Old Key West. We have always had a great experience using them and find their customer service to be really great. And if you use the chat feature on the website you'll get a honest-to-God real live person who works there in-person! Anytime I put in a request, and they don't have that particular unit or resort available they always reply with what units/resorts they do have available.

We have rented points from them at Boardwalk, Beach Club, Old Key West, Saratoga, Wilderness & Bay Lake Tower. We rented a theme park view at Bay Lake and it was wonderful - though we usually just do a regular studio. One bit of advice I'd give is book as far out as possible for best selection in terms of if you want a particular view/size unit or resort. Our trips are sometimes a bit last minute, so we have to take what we can get vs. where we'd prefer to stay.

You do have to be aware of the particularities of renting this way, and that I feel is on the customer to really look into how it works. There is third party insurance you can get, although we never have gotten it.

There are other rental places out there, some of them have really good reviews, too. We stay with David's because after several rentals we've never had a single problem and their customer service has always been outstanding in helping answer questions before we pulled the trigger on a rental and in renting multiple rooms at a time.
