daughters want to get rid of Disney VHS

Hi,
My daughters are ready to get rid of the original Tarzan VHS, the Walt Disney Masterpiece Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs VHS, and WD's Classic Peter Pan VHS. She wants to donate them to charity, which is the first time she has ever wanted to donate anything, and I want to encourage her. Do they have any collector value? Should we just go ahead and slowly start upgrading our Disney VHS library to BluRay and/or DVD?

As a DS CM, the only VHS tape that I ever recall having a "greater value" is the original cover of The Little Mermaid with the naughty cover. I would hold on to any tapes that haven't been released to DVD/BLURAY yet. I heard a lot of people donating their VHS tapes to children's charities ie Ronald McDonald House, etc. Kudos to your daughter!

I donated dozens of VHS tapes to a nursing home. They were thrilled.

Yeah, as the movies have come out on DVD/Blu Ray I've gotten rid of my VHS's. I think I maybe only have a couple left! Just waiting for those DVDs to come out too.

Children's hospitals or a children's unit in a hospital I bet would love them...Ronald McDonald houses, etc.

VHS isn't old enough technology to be worth anything right now. When we first transferred from LPs to CDs there was 0 value in LPs because they were still everywhere and things were often still released on LP.

Now LPs have more value, ESPECIALLY the much older ones.


Basically, your VHS tapes aren't worth anything now, but wait a few decades and they'll be worth a lot more. That being said, I never want to discourage people from donating to charity. And you may not want to wait that long to make a few bucks.
