Daughter's Clothing---Help Please

I am at my wit's end. My DD is 'only' 12, yet she is quite tall (5'4") for her age and well-proportioned. She weighs about 115. My problem is that she barely fits into kids size 16 clothing. 'Junior' clothing lines look way too grown up, plus her body is not yet built the 'junior' way. Does ANYONE know of a CHILDREN'S clothing line that has sizes to accomodate larger children. 'Plus' sizes do not work because they are more for 'chubbier' kids. I know I am not the only mom with a child who is big for her age. Any and all help is appreciated.

I have the oppostie problem, my DD is 13 and she weighs 77 pounds and stands 4ft-10-1/2nches tall. I find that Limited too has a variety of sizes for bigger and smaller girls. They sell things in 1/2 sizes and they sell pants in short, regular & long. Their clothes are up to date yet not too grown up. Their 1/2 sizes aren't like the plus sizes for chubbier kids, they are just a little bigger than the whole size. It might be worth a try.

I wish I could help, I have a son. I know seeing the kids come into my work they all seem so grown up and half of the clothing is not age appropriate. This is a hrd world for a girl that age, she wants to fit in with "the crowd". Good luck in finding the clothing that fits yours and her needs. Let me know how you made out.

My niece is also tall for her age, but on the thin side. She has had good luck at Limited Too. Their clothing is fashionable, but don't look too old for her age. Both my niece and her mom have been happy with the selection there.

Well I have an 11yo DD that is not that tall yet, around 4' 9' ish and 83lbs and she just barley fit into JRS, BUT there was NO WAY that 16's fit her!!! The proportion was just wrong.

I am going to tell you your dd is bigger than me. She could wear womens/misses or Jrs. I am 110lbs and 5' 3

DH went with last weekend to get her clothes and he about fainted.

Another vote for Limited Too. If there is not one near you, they also have a catalog. My DD used to shop there all the time when she was at that stage.

I agree with danacara, my niece is only 9 and already at least 5'4". It is heard to find age appropriate clothing but my sister also shops a lot at Landsend.

Aeropostle and the Gap work well for my 5'6" , modest 13 year old. You have to keep your eyes out for the pants though, they can be kind of low. Keep shopping and when you find ones that fit nice, buy several.

She had outgrown L-two clothes when she was 12.

For my dd who is tall too, I like to shop at a Levi's store that's close by. They've got all kinds of jeans that always fit her perfectly, even now since she's got a more curvy shape.

I bought regular t-shirts, or the regular shirts and they would be 3/4 length instead of long sleeved. I would buy sweatshirt jackets from the mens department so they would be long enough.
Since the style of the shirts are more of the midriff baring ones, she fits in pretty well. lol. We do find shirts that cover her stomach, but it's usually not the really cute ones. She likes it that way, she can show off her belly ring. lol

My other daugther is going through a fluffy stage.
I just went to JC Penney and they had tons of clothes that fit her. Tons that she likes.

Thanks for all the fast replies. We tried Limited Too, no luck. We got 2 things at the adult GAP - one was a size 1 and the other a size 4 - go figure. We saw that store Aeropostale. I had never heard of it - didn't go in. Next time I'll have to give it a shot. One thing I decided would help us nervous moms, as well as the stores (such as abercrombie, American Eagle Outfitters, Aeropostale) themselves a lot: they should have a "mom-type" of sales clerk to help all the moms like me who are almost afraid to go into these stores. There's nothing worse than being 43, and afraid of your daughter wearing "teen-ager" clothes, than being waited on by an anorexic-looking teen with several body piercings and super-low cut, skin-tight jeans!!!

perfect! I enter Abercrombie in fear! Luckily, I'm buying
for boys most of the time.
My neice is 5'5"/125 lbs and 12. She has no
trouble finding clothes, she goes to the adult areas. Believe
it of not-there are lots of "cool" clothes for adults too!
I agree that "teen" clothes are pretty revealing. Was
discussing it with my dmil just yesterday. She takes
DN shopping and said there was nothing in the young
girls section that did not show DN's belly button!! I laughed
but wondered if the clothes manufacturers really think all
of us will allow our children to dress that way.

Ok, all in favor of school uniforms, raise your hand!

Most schools have dress codes that exclude a large aprt of the current styles.

When I grew up, we had two kinds of decent clothes: school clothes and church clothes. Now the kids need school clothes and casual clothes. (Somehow church clothes are a thing of the past.)

I've always been small for my age (i'm 15 and I'm 4' 11.5" and I weigh about 105) but I would suggest Aeropostale and Old Navy. Most of the clothes at Aeropostale aren't revealing at all and don't look too old for pre-teens. And I started buying shirts in the womens section at Old Navy a few years ago because the girls section was too "little girlie" for me.

And, around here anyway, there aren't any teens working in a lot of these stores because you have to be at least 18. Most of the people working in Aero and American Eagle are in their 20's and are usually very helpful. They're not that scary!

I was going to suggest this too!!!! My daughter's waist is a child size 5, she's 8 yrs old and so the length of 5's are too short. I only buy her clothes from Lands End. Plus I find the styles are "cool" enough for her and appropriate enough for me!!

Another vote for Lands End!!! My 9 yearl old DD is VERY tall for her age and way too young to wear junior styles. Lands End has a good selection of appropriate and comfortable clothing for kids and they have extended sizes. It's the ONLY place we get bathing suits for her as well.

They also have overstocks on their website and you can get some good bargains, especially for out of season items. It's good to buy ahead and stock up.

LOL Mar.. some of the clerks are way tooooo much for me ...
12 is a SCARY age... I just went round and round with sis again this am.. I truly am thinking about going back on the Paxil.. it was hec to get off of but dang, I don't know if sis will live to make it thru 7th grade, if I don't get some heavy drugs.... wish I could have a couple of gin and tonics...

Clothes are a point of contention at our house. Limited Too has nice stuff... but JMHO.. they are EXPENSIVE... thank goodness sis will shop the sale racks without a fight. Also I do not think 12 year old girls need to be wearing hip huggers and crop tops..
Thank goodness peasant shirts are "IN" for fall.

I have raised two hands for UNIFORMS>> basic khakis and polo shirts for every one.. works for me...
We had wool plaid uniforms in grade school.. ah I think the nuns used it as some kind of penance for us....

Thanks for letting me chime in.. sorry I can't help you with the clothes issue. I agree with all the stores mentioned above.. out here we have Pacific Sun, Gap, Limited two, Old Navy, and good old Target...

Another vote for Lands End! Their clothes are very well made and fairly well priced. And, you can order on-line and they get it to you within a couple of days.
