DAS versus ECV

I will be traveling with one guest who will have an ECV for mobility issues, and another guest who is eligible for DAS for non-mobility-related medical reasons. The guest with DAS will not necessarily need to use DAS all the time, just when they are having problems with their medical issue. I'm trying to figure out how to coordinate this. I've seen the info online and I'm still confused. I'm especially confused about something I saw somewhere that said DAS can only be used if the attraction has a FP line? Is this correct?

Also, my guest with ECV mainly has one because she can't walk long distances. Standing in queues is not actually an issue (conversely, standing in a queue can be an issue for the DAS person). But if I'm understanding everything, the ECV has to go through the queue because they all have the same key so you don't want to leave an ECV unattended. Is this all correct? If so, would the ECV person have to go through the queue while the DAS person waits elsewhere? And if everyone waits elsewhere, how does the ECV get through the queue? I'm so confused.

The last time I went a few years ago, DAS could be used on any attraction where an accommodation is needed. Since people have varying needs, this may or may not be necessary for some guests. For example, there were no fastpass rides in Fantasyland, but we used it extensively through that area. There will be alternate entrances for ECV/wheelchair users in that area as well since the lines are not ADA compliant.

As for the ECV going through the lines, that isn't always possible. There will be a parking area for the ECVs while the guest is on the ride. Most of the time that is out near the walkway, but for some, it's near the exit of the ride. It really depends. In California Adventure, most lines are ADA compliant and the ECV can go with the guest. There is a DAS map that will show accessibility.

For rides that can't take an ECV via regular line, they will issue you a time to return. Big thunder, Indiana Jones, Haunted mansion are a few that come to mind. Space mountain has a separate line for wheelchair only, and many fantasy land rides are older and can't take more than one ECV at a time, and sometimes they give a return time, sometimes they accomodate as they can.

If the other person is on DAS, and you also have an ECV, the entire party will go wherever they can accomodate ECV.

If your ECV friend cannot stand for long periods of time, she'll get a 'return time' and when her time comes she'll 'check in' with a CM at the ride and wait at the exit on her ECV (or another short walk) until it is time to load. Then she'll get off the ECV and walk to the ride vehicle.

This could make sense. To be fair, the Main Street Vehicles rarely have a wait of more than a few minutes, while it is coming to/from it's other stop. There's not really an alternative waiting area for them, as they are essentially in the middle of the walkway.

Similarly with DLRR; there's only two places to wait-- either at the entrance or the exit. Entrance at least has room to move around and stay apart (somewhat) from other guests if that's an issue. Standing at the exit, though, --whoa-- has 50 people coming right at you as they are disembarking. The idea of being a fish swimming up stream in that kinda crowd gives me some serious anxiety! Yikes!

5 people can accompany the person with the DAS. Isn’t the person in the ECV able to be one of those people?

Just have your entire party included on the DAS, you can use an ECV with the DAS. And the disabilities section will provide far more information. Even though it is under the Disney World section, there are a lot of people familiar with Disneyland.
