DAS return time at rope drop?

Say we're at HS for RD. We go straight to GMR (my son's fave) for a return time, so we can go meet characters. Will they give a return time for waits under 10 mins, or will they expect us to just ride the ride right then?

Not likely. DAS is issued for the current standby time minus ten minutes.

I think you are right that a line has to be longer then 15 minutes to get a return time at 15 minutes I try to just do the regular line some times that dose not work I have problems with the GMR and have to get additional accommodation just to ride it. but I think if you get there right at rope drop go meet a charter then head to GMR the wait should not be that long you can alway look at MDE and see if it is more then 15 have someone run ( walk fast) and get a return time

DD was trained on the system. What they told her was that if the line is 10 minutes you are to direct the guests to get in the Standby line. The system assigns a return time so if it is 10 minutes and it takes away the 10 minutes that would give you zero return time.

Now they could just waive you in and override the system so at the second scanner you get green, but that is going to be up to an individual CM.... and not your goal.

Why don't you head to the characters and send someone over to the GMR to get a return time as soon as the time goes over 10, then just come back and meet you.

We were there last week. My DH went to get a return time and they asked if he would like to go right in (wait time was 10 minutes). I was not with him at the time and when he told them his wife was not there (I was using the restroom), they gave him a return time for 10 minutes out. Since they can be used anytime after the return time, we were able to use it approx. 30 minutes later. So I do believe you may be able to get a return time even if there is little to no wait for the standby line.
