So, if our first park day is on a Monday, can we go to the gates of MK on Sunday and get a DAS for my daughter? (We're staying at FW so it would be an easy boat ride over.)
Thanks!!

The best answer is you can try. Sometimes they will issue a DAS at the "outside" Guest Relations, but sometimes not (too busy with ticket issues or don't have the equipment/functioning equipment). As long as your family won't mind coming THAT close to the park and walking away, it's worth the try.
Enjoy your vacation!

And everyone who is going to be on the DAS (along with the person who needs the DAS) has to be present, right?

Yes.
The person the DAS is for must be present.
Some people have reported all they needed was everyone's park tickets or Magicbands, but I would have everyone present with their tickets/Magicbands. Otherwise, you might have to make another trip to add them.

The person for whom the DAS is being issued MUST be present. As far as the "rest of the party" being there in person... I have always just had their ticket media and have NEVER been asked to present "bodies". I have never linked more than 4 at a given time. I just even linked some CM comp tickets without the CM or the guests using them....again just using the ticket media. YMMV though.

how old is your daughtwe? will she be able to be that close and not go in? I know with my grandsons that would be a meltdown when we went back to boat without going in

They will as long as they are not busy and have the right iPad to do it with but the person with the DAS card needs to be there I have also had cm tell me the people with me need to be there but this seems hit or miss
