Anyone have any luck with the child not being present when requiring DAS online? We have a niece coming with us that will require DAS, but with the extremely long wait times I’m afraid she will be at school or not available when they finally come onto the chat……..

They'll give you time to get the person in another room, but if the person is not available, they'll end the chat. Someone just posted their experience recently.

The person who DAS is being requested for must be present. The CM asks if the person is present during the text part of the chat and will end the chat if the person registering for DAS is not present (or in another room where they can come in a few minutes).

Also, if your niece is over 18, she will need to apply herself unless she has a guardian. If she’s under 18 years, her parent or guardian needs to apply for her with her present.

This is copied from the WDW DAS information webpage. The part about the person registering for DAS needing to be present is noted at least 3 times on the DAS information.
  • The Guest requesting DAS (or their parent/guardian) must be 18 years of age or older to register. The Guest requesting to use DAS must be present during the video call.

You won't get to the video chat if the person is not available in the home. We went through the process on the weekend.

Does anyone know why they do this? It's not like you can tell someone's cognitive disability by looking at them...

They are not making that decision - they are making sure the person actually exists, and they need to take a photo too, right?
Yes. They are making sure the person exists and they also take a photo, which is linked to the DAS.
When going on rides, the person registered to DAS scans in first. The photo shows up on a screen for the CM to compare the person scanning into the attraction to the picture linked to DAS. That is to make sure the person riding/going on the attraction is actually the one registered to DAS.

Yep! Otherwise imagine how many great aunt Sheryl's with health issues people suddenly would have 😂
