DAS card- priority seating with shows?

better to provide help for some than for none. actually, there was accomodations for those with low vision and it worked fine. it was a stamp on the gaC to sit in front for shows. so now, instead of the stamp we are told when we get our DAS to simply ask the CM and they will escort us to the front. as that is what we do.

I think the point is that a guest doesn't need a DAS in order to ask for seating up front as an accommodation. The accommodation now for vision is really no different than it was the GAC; before you had to show the stamp, now you have to ask.

That isn''t the reason we get the DAS. we get it to help shorten the distance of the dark line he has to navigate. as yes, I agree about asking instead of the stamp for the shows.
I was pointing out the some seast could be reserved for those with low vision and other disabilities. and it was mentioned that that wouldn't be fair and would be excess. and people would complain if there weren't enough.
well, often there aren't enough wheelchaair spots for shows in the American garden theater for everyone who wants one, or in spots for parades, but that doesn't keep Disney from providing them for those who show up first. so why not provide some for those with visual disabilites? and if they are take when you arrive, same as when the wheelchair spots are taken.
BTW, Beauty and the Beast show does rope off seats up front for those with various disabilities. so it can be done.
just trying to help others with vision problems with our experiences and knowledge regarding this issue, we learn more and more as my husband's sight declines.

1) It sounds reasonable.
2) But, in reality won't work.
3) If they place a few spots, then those who can't get them will complain there are not enough of them.
4) Better to just not have them at all.

NOTE: Lots of times we get people at The Desk who complain they were able to do something because there were not enough seats/spots/opportunities/etc. We can commiserate, but it usually does not satisfy them.
Wow!!!! Better to not have them at all....
Why not??? Because nondisabled people whine??? Tough crap!!! Let them whine...they have NO IDEA what it's like. Let them deal with the daily issues and then we can talk!!!!

thank you!!!! but I actually think rusty meant that theywould run out of disabled spots and disabled people complain. which they already do.. like they run out of wheelchair spots for the parades, the fireworks, the candlelight processional.. there are only so many and once they are taken, they are gone.

well, I guess, accordig to rusty, the Cms know how to deal with that situation when they run out of wheelchair spots just mentioned. but.. if they run out of "sit in the front of shows" priority (due to low vision) it would be unfair and there would be an uproar!

sounds like, according to this Cm . it is easier to not offer the much needed accomodation at all!

because we all would be just as happy to listen to the audio version on headsets. (and many are, and do.. but that day hasn't come yet. for my honey, and may not.. or may.. )

sheesh.. it's simple. OF COURSE we understand that if the spots for the visually impaired are taken when we get there... we snooze. we lose! JUST LIKE if the wheelchair spots are taken for any show... so according to rusty's logic, if disney has to turn anyone away because spots are already taken, it is better to not offer the accomodation at all? because it might be uncomfortable for the CM to explain and even though they commiserate the guest will still be angry.

there should be some seats for shows set aside for those with visual impairments.. (will there be cheaters/ yes. there always will be. even with the DAS> ")
that is NO reason to stop giving accomodations to those with visual disabilites.. who NEED to sit up close to see anything at all. ( and about 5- 10 minutes before the show, then open up those seats.)

it's not that hard to understand. If we get to the show late and those seats up front are taken.. our bad.. we come back earlier for the next show or skip it. if we get there a half hour to 45 minutes before the show and tell the CM we have a person in our party who needs to sit up front to see ANYTHING, we should be brought up front BEFORE they let the hordes in and I have to lead my husband down dark stairs..(to me the nemo show is dark stairs. but to my hubby, the beauty and the beast stairs are DARK stairs.) trying to rush to beat the kids scampering around and people pushing us aside to beat us to the front seats. this is now a SAFETY issue! (or have the CM lead us down the wheelchair ramp. which is very long, and by the time we get down to the front of the theater in Nemo, all the front seats are taken/)

I can't believe I am even debating this.. with a CM, no less... SIGH...

A guest has very limited vision.. needs fair ACCESS. to make sure he can sit in the front. (unless, of course, he shows up 5 minutes before show time)

addendum and it's not like I can even do what I used to do and go down and grab us seats and have hubby slowly make his way down the stairs top meet up with me. I need to lead him down. and in answer to your next question, yes its' just the 2 of us.

thank you again! I realize I didn't give you enough creditfor backing me up. :) (I didn't mean to make it sound like I was disagreeing with you; ITA with what you said)

Other than how you request this accommodation, how is it any different now than it was when the GAC was in place?

How hard life is outside of Disney is irrelevant, or should be, when it comes to necessary accommodations.

As with many/most other disabilities, the needs of those with vision disabilities are broad and not necessarily the same from one person to the next. The problem with reserving a section of seats is how can that be done with varied needs? Some people with vision disabilities need front row seating. Others may need to sit on the right, or the left, but not necessarily front. Others need center but again not front. That is why the GAC stamp for vision was not helpful for many guests -- it indicated front row seating but that wasn't the need. Therefore, under the DAS system, guests have to make their needs known at the attraction. Yes, the DAS itself is an accommodation that helps some people, but it has no bearing on seating requests. Those who need specific seating should make that request known to CMs at the attraction.
