DAS at Disneyland!

Hi everyone,
Can someone explain to me how the DAS is currently working at Disneyland? We used the DAS program in October, and it was very helpful for me. Next month we are taking the kids and my mom. My mom uses an ECV.

They were so nice to me about the DAS, and I actually like using a kiosk a little better than the WDW system (we had a DAS at WDW in December, but didn't use it much).

What do I need to know? I heard there were recent tweaks to the system. Should we get a DAS for both members in the party who may need it (myself and my mom?). I'm thinking - would both myself and my mom need a DAS? Or would she be OK since she has an EVC?

I decided to post to the DL board because most of the other boards around here (even the DISabilities forum) are very WDW focused. And I've experienced how the DAS works differently there.

With the ECV she doesn't need a DAS she would just get a return time for whatever attraction she wants to go on. Sometimes, early in the morning, when you approach the place to get a return time, they will let you right on. Happened to me in December at Jungle Cruise and Haunted Mansion, but other than that I needed a return time for most rides.

If you do end up with a DAS at DL, the new thing there is that they no longer use the cards to write down a return time. Each time you get a DAS or WC return time, you hand over all the guests passes that will be riding that particular ride. They scan them in. You can only have one at a time, on each pass.

Thats the best answer I have read in a long time thank you.... can I tack to the OP Question with one of my own please??? If all members of the party need to be there.. will it be ok if one member of the party comes 3 days later??? or do they need to be on the pass from the get go..?? thank you if you can answer this ...

Fyi according to what I've read online recently, they scan the entire party's tickets to ensure there is no DAS fraud now in DL. Apparently people were having multiple DASs issued within one party to take advantage of the new system. As a result now, the ticket scans to go on the rides link the DAS holder to their party members assuring the party members aren't "riding" on other DASs.

A really good suggestion I saw here on the boards was to bring a little notebook or something with you to easily jot down the return times if memory while on vacation isn't your thing. (I've been following DAS stuff closely as I have a family member who will need to request use of the system on our next trip.)

Yes, everyone who wants to ride with the DAS holder will need their ticket scanned. As I understand it, the wheelchair return times will work the same. For example, say the DAS holder wants to ride Peter Pan, and everyone wants to go with him/her. You go to the kiosk and present the DAS holders park ticket along with everyone who wants to ride Peter Pan with him/her to be scanned as well. Since DLR doesn't have the card any longer, just make sure you write down your return time.

A DAS return time is like standing in a virtual line. You still need to wait your turn, but, you can do it another place and not in the actual line. DLR has changed to this to prevent the abuse that was happening with people getting multiple DAS cards and having more than one return time at a time.

You've always needed your whole party to get a wheelchair return time. Even when they were FP sized slips of paper, they'd count your party and write the number on it. The exception was POTC, if the party was small, they'd tend to trust you. Maybe because they are almost always doing wheelchair returns on that ride.

They DO give you a little paper where you can write down your return times yourself. I always said, oh, I will remember. But lots of times, I forgot, duh. You can ask any CM who has a scanner, to scan it and they will tell you the time. I started entering it on my cell phone, in "Reminders".

You can get return times at the kiosks, and WC return times at the actual rides. But the new system seems to have solved the issue of some guests riding on mor ethan one DAS, as well as double dipping with a WC return time and a DAS return time, at the same time. It's genius, they did a great job plugging that hole.

I posted not to long ago about in the disabilities thread about how it worked us in Disneyland very recently. The consensus seems to be that my first day there they were understaffed and that is why I had problems. All I can say is the the procedure was not uniform the first day at all. The other days it was better but we didn't go back to fantasy land on any other days because it was just too hard with the unpredictably with the rides and how the line would work. Regardless of how people on the thread seemed to feel about me, I posted it because I had the same problem as you finding info on Disneyland.

I'm considering this for our trip as my DD10 has a few things going on. I was thinking of just trying out a regular lineup with the FP process and see if that works for her. If it doesn't we can always go to GS at City Hall and get a DAS, right? She's usually pretty good in lines, but we've not been in one for more than 20 minutes at a time usually, and honestly, between her getting antsy, her sister fueling the fire and DH being a jerkoff in lineups.... Do you think I could let them go off on their own and I enjoy DLR by myself?

You can get one at DCA and it will be easier if you have a wheelchair I suspect. The line was long and slow for us at Disneyland as well. Disneyland has steps in the guest relations building. I don't know if you will be able to get a DAS for 9 people. We started with 4 and then our friends met us and I wanted to add them and that would have made it 7. The cast member told me 6 was the max no matter what. But that is the same guy who gave me all the incorrect information the day before. I am sure they would make an exception for 2 adults and 5 kids and they might have made an exception for me if I pushed but I didn't really care that much and didn't push it.

It is my understanding that a Manager can make exceptions to the number of guests attached to the DAS. Everyone in your party must be in attendance however.

City Hall does have a ramp to the side to enter the building if needing a wheelchair. However, it is a good idea to stay with your party (line holders) until you reach the bottom of the stairs and then separate to use the 2 entrances. There is a CM at the top of the stairs allowing entrance into the building according to the next available counter CM.

The length of the line at both places depends a lot on the time of day. But, we have never been in line longer then 30 minutes. It may look long, but, it moves quickly. We get our first tasted of Disney popcorn and discuss our "must dos"

There are two ways of accessing City Hall in Disneyland.. the stairs and then to the right is the wheelchair entrance. I always use the wheel chair entrance due to me not able to use stairs... You will still have a wait, but not as long as the other line.. and yes, you will need your whole party there to link your tickets to the pass.
