Ok, I think I may know the answer to this but would love clarification or input on what others have done in this situation.

If we obtain a DAS card for our son who has cognitive disabilities, but does not meet the height requirements for several rides, are we able to use the DAS card to get a return time for a ride that our other child is tall enough for?

I'm asking because I know our biggest obstacle with our son will be wait times and lines, so I'm not sure how we wait in longer lines and do rider switch for our daughter with him.

Of course we will utilize Fast passes and that will help tremendously for us taking her on rides he can't go on, but I was curious if this was an issue for anyone else, and what if anything, tips or accommodations from Disney could help in these situations.

Thank you in advance for the help!

No, you can only use the DAS for a ride that the person with the DAS is going to ride.

I'm not actually sure how using the DAS for rides that your son is to short for would help. With the return time, you'd wait the length of the standby line (minus 10 minutes) plus the length of the FP line. Without it, you'd wait the length of the standby line. In both situations, your son is not actually waiting in the line and the amount of time is roughly the same.

Rider swap, however, would help as total wait time would be standby (first rider) and then FP (second rider).

If a child is not tall enough to go on a ride, the child will not be allowed in the queue. This is where you request child swap. Go to the CM at the beginning of the queue, show the CM the too-short child, ask for rider swap. It will either be a physical card, or a lanyard to exchange for a physical card inside. One adult will ride with tall enough child, Other adult will wait with too-short child. When the first combo of parent/child gets off, the other adult can either get right in the FP queue with the tall enough child, or wait until later to use the rider swap pass.

Ok, thank you! If any one has any input on previous visits how they balanced one child with a DAS card that couldn't ride all rides with a child that could, I'd appreciate it. Getting a little nervous about what to do with our little guy when we split up to take his sister on a ride. I'm sure it will work out one way or another just want to be as prepared as possible.

It would be like any other person with a child swap. If he's young enough for a stroller, he may not even notice the child swap. You will always have some idea how long the other parent/child will be. Take that time to walk around a bit, have a snack, even just hide away for a bit. Disney World is overstimulating for everyone, not just our little guys. We had several times when my son would just pull the shade down over the stroller and make himself a little cocoon.

There's always something to see nearby as well, or another attraction to try. Are there specific rides you are thinking of? There is a play area near Big Thunder Mountain that we used for our little one to kill time. He liked just sitting in his stroller at Everest and watching the roller coaster....over, over and over again. We happened to be waiting at Test Track when the Jaminators came out. That entertained him the entire time. Other times, he just napped.

One thing you may want to plan for is to switch off parents with your daughter. We had a couple instances where our oldest didn't want to go again (you can still use the swap) but the youngest was also done with the waiting so we moved on.

You can also fastpass the ones you know he will be too short for. We have had no problems using child swap with fastpass, and if you hit the fast pass in the right window, you don't need one.

That is very helpful, thank you! Big thunder would be one of them, and I had no idea there was a play area near by. We are also going to AK the 1st day and had an early morning fast pass for Everest, and I was concerned about what he would do nearby. I originally planned to have my husband take him on It's tough to be a bug, when we were on Everest but it may be too scary for him, not sure. However; I bet he would love watching the roller coaster over and over so that's a good back up plan. Thanks again.
