Most of the true Darwin award winner stories have been verified although a couple of times, some were later found to be false.

The problem is almost all those forwarded emails that start with: "Here are the top 10 the winners of the 2003 Darwin Awards" are not true. Those forwarded emails are most often urban legends and are recycled year after year.

So yes, there are Darwin awards but they are usually not the ones you read about in forwarded email.
