I just made the mistake of watching a wisdom tooth extraction video on youtube. I have to get all four out and I am such a wuss when it comes to my mouth. I had one abscess over the weekend and now I'm cursing myself for ever being curious and utilizing youtube!!!!! OH the horror!!! Chisels and hammers!!!! I feel like I'm a kid again scared to go to the dentist. Now I have to MAKE myself go!! :scared:

It'll be so much worse if you put it off. Just go, get it done and be done with it. It's NOT that bad and after they drug you up and you sleep the rest of the day. You'll be good to go the next day.

if it makes you feel better. I had all 4 wisdom teeth out and I was fine. It didn't hurt as much as I thought. I was in hardly any pain at all. So, stop watching youtube videos. :rotfl: Hope all goes well!

That's true mine were no problem. I had my top right broken for almost a year with it digging into my jaw because I thought it would be terrible. My wife finaly got me to go and he pulled the top two and had to cut out the bottom two. It was a breeze no pain no problems. I couldn't believe I put up with it that long for nothing.

Ugh. I have to go in for a consultation before I can get them out. The waiting is killing me. Talk about dragging it out. ha ha! I usually do very well with procedures so I think I'll be fine. I just worry about getting to and from since my hubby won't be around. Need to find someone to watch my dd2 as well. Oh, the planning.

I would for sure ask to be put to sleep because I had to do it awake. I was just about to lose my insurance with my parents because I was graduating. The oral surgeon waiting list was over a month and I only had 2 weeks so my dentist said he could do it. I didn't think I would be awake! I had my mp3 player but trust me it wasn't much distraction. 4 teeth later I was out of there as fast as my mom could drive. Afterwards I was sore and couldn't eat much of anything besides jello and pudding. I did get some nice long naps and sympathy from my family. The teeth are gone and I'm happier. Hang in there and just make sure you're sleeping.

I had a rough experience. All four were impacted.
I was asleep for the procedure, at least. When I woke up to go home I felt very bruised and my lips were split. I ended up a swollen mess and was too paranoid to take the heavy drugs because the warnings scared me, so I ended up taking Tylenol instead- which did nothing. I had black eyes. My dad joked that it looked like I had gone a few rounds in the boxing ring.:rotfl:
So...I would definitely recommend resting afterwards - have someone to watch your child for the whole day (line up someone for the day after, just in case) and use some pain meds.

I was terrified to do a recent double extraction under local anesthesia... the procedure turned out to be not so bad after all. Just close your eyes while they're working.

If the actually put you under, all the better, but then you'll need help getting home.

I had mine out when I was in highschool, they were not "out" yet. They put me to sleep and I woke up feeling a tiny bit woozy. Its true, for a few days I had to have stuff thru a straw, but i had pain meds, other than that I had
NO PROBLEMS! It was very easy.
You may feel like sleeping alot initially so you will want someone to drive you and help get your pain med script afterwards.
You will be fine.

I have to say that I put off having my wisdom teeth out for years. They never really hurt and all four were "out" so I just put if off. Well the way the timing worked out I ended up having them out the day before I went to the beach. When I got the the appointment I was given the choice of sleeping or general anesthesia. For some crazy reason I felt uncomfortable going under and just asked to be numbed up. I was also told that if I truly needed to they could put me under after they started. Well anyway let me tell you that by far the numbing shots were worse than the teeth pulling. Not to scare you but I have had many procedures on my teeth and when they put the needle into the roof of my mouth I just about lost it. But like I said after I was able to withstand the few seconds for the shot I was fine. In fact the actual pulling was so tame after the shot that I laughed at what the fuss was about. I had no problems other than chipmunk cheeks and just made special care to keep the wounds clean.

I had mine out 2 yeas ago with 2 others the wisdom broke when trying to push through(6 total). It wasn't bad at all. Trusted me I was so scared. It was ok. I only took the RX pain meds a few days. Just had to eat soft foods. Just make sure they give you a plastic suringe(SP?) so you can keep flushes the holes and stiches to keep it clean until it heal.s. Tell them to put you to sleep if you are scared.

I had all 4 cut out when I was 17 due to them being impacted. Was it the most pleasant experience ? Definately not. I was put asleep and was really groggy when I came to. Make sure you have someone to drive you home because if they do put you asleep they'll require it. I was really sore for about a week after and did have bruising on my cheeks I'm guessing from where they pulled. It wasn't horrible though and you definately want to get it done ASAP before it starts hurting you. Good luck !!

Its nothing! I had 2 pulled out in seconds! I coludnt believe how fast its done!

I asked him, "How long will it take to get the tooth out?"
He said, "20 minutes, let me take a look at it...all done, its out!"

I laughed and said, "Hey! That wasnt 20 minutes!"

I felt him push on the tooth, completly painless and that was it!

Good Luck youll be fine!

Ps: Do it while you have insurance!

Military insurance only covers it until the age of 30 so I have a year in the clear. ha ha

My top two teeth are out, my bottom two are impacted. Joy.

I had mine done, 4 wisdom and another one that was just broken. I've also had a root canal and crown done. The root canal was much worse than getting 5 teeth pulled all at once. Seriously......I was put out for the procedure because I'm a wuss, I slept much of the first day and was much better the second day. Just use the syringe they give you and do the salt water baths, eat soft foods (ice cream, yogurt, soup, etc etc) and relax, you'll be fine in 3 days! :) It's not that big a deal. Oh, 2 of mine were impacted, the other 2 were barely thru.

I had all 4 done at once a few years back. I was out for the procedure and when I came to I asked when they were going to start :rotfl: They wouldn't let me drive home - in fact they wouldn't do the procedure without my designated driver in the waiting room the entire time - poor guy couldn't even go get the breakfast I refused to let him get on the way there (I wasn't about to smell breakfast in the car if I couldn't eat  )

I was sore for a few days and could only eat liquid stuff (milkshakes and soup) but it wasn't as bad as i imagined it would be.
