I really wanted to do the Merry and Bright Dessert Party, but we discussed it tonight and - based on what Disney's charged for dessert parties in the past - there's no way to justify the cost. :( Not with the Canadian dollar sitting at 75 cents. As it is, we've got our fingers crossed that the dollar rebounds a bit by December.

My husband knows me well, though. He said, "Would seeing Disney on Ice help make up for some of your disappointment?"

Anyway... all best wishes to the rest of you, trying to snag a dessert party spot tomorrow morning! I hope you get through without much wait and get your first choice of day! :)

I hear you about our Canadian Dollar being so low.

Unless the price of oil starts moving towards the highs of last year I wouldn't hold out hope of our dollar rebounding anytime soon unfortunately......but we can always hope!:thumbsup2

our holiday is hanging in the balance...

dh keeps coming back at me with "you know, with the exchange rate...". totally killing my disney buzz.

We just changed our reservations from the POLY to POR to make up for some of the exchange. It's terrible right now.
That being said, I have to do the Merry & Bright Dessert party, we've never seen the lights before, and now this is the last year

Try being from NZ! Down to 63c on the dollar (down from 85c) adding $$$$$ onto the trip and making those extras impossible

DH and i have been "discussing" this quite a bit. apparently, new roof takes precedence over disney. i will concede on that point. it's the other annoying priorities i disagree with.
however, after much "discussion", i have admitted defeat and told DH i have cancelled the whole trip.

truth: not cancelled since we have til end of oct to cancel without fees... so i will keep buying lottery tickets between now and then and hope something comes together.
lotto max 55 mill tonight. buying tickets on my way to work. wish me luck! ;)

Yep, that low dollar really stings. I did significantly less souvenir shopping than I usually do this year and totally for that reason. I'm hoping we get some recovery in the next year (although it's not looking overly promising in the near future at least) or I may have to seriously think about changing my deluxe room to a moderate (first world problems, I know).

We've ended up scaling back our honeymoon quite a bit. On the plus side i booked our hotels with rented DVC points and paid for almost all of that in full back in the fall so that really saved us. Buutt we're not doing the tours we had planned on, skipping the F&W special events we had hoped for and ditched our signature dining ADRs. This was going to be an extravagant trip for us since we figured we probably won't have another excuse this good to splurge on Disney, but since the dollar went down the drain, just being there will be extravagant enough!

Painful ! Having the prices virtually raise over 25% over the last couple of years !
