Watch for those falling trees! Last week we were sitting on our balcony there, drinking our morning coffee (was it just last week?) when a 20-25 foot tall tree fell over next to us, roots and all. It fell straight over, landing on the cart path. Thank goodness there was no one nearby or they could have been seriously conked! I'm especially glad the little princess below us wasn't around to get hurt-every morning about 7:00, she'd come out yelling, "Where ahhh yooo? Where ahh yooo, geeeese?" Then she'd trot out in her princess dress to feed them. Actually that morning, the geese/ducks had come to her balcony, wondering "Where ahh yooo, princess?"
I called the tree in (the front desk sounded like they doubted me, there was just a little breeze that morning), DH ran out and one of the maintenance workers and he cut up the tree and moved it. I also told Sonya (OKW GM) at the annual meeting and suggested they check the trees-they may be hanging on by a thread, I mean root.

Looks like OKW is resembling KEY WEST with all of the recent hurricanes!

Glad nooone was hurt, and wasn't that little princess and her geese an extra piece of magic?!

So glad no one was hurt! ::yes:: I've heard of that happening at other places after hurrican season.

I'm especially glad that little princess wasn't in harms way. That's the CUTEST story by the way! :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

It must've been really strange having a tree fall like that!! Glad no one was hurt. Were there a lot of ducks at OKW? We were there in early June, with a canal view room, no ducks anywhere. It was strange, I always buy some bread for the ducks, and it went to waste. :(

There were just the two ducks in the pond by us (the princess called them geese, that's what they were to her) and what was fun was the cormorant that used to sit in the middle of the pond in back of our villa, on top of a black thing in the middle (I think it was for a fountain sometimes) with his wings outspread all the time.

Hmmm...I wonder if Disney is doing some "bird patrol" because some folks may fear "bird flu"? Maybe last years hurricanes destroyed a lot of nests or something? There didn't even seem to be as many gulls and ibis when we were there.

We were there the end of Oct. during Wilma. We had torrential rains and some pretty stiff winds. Your tree was probably weakened and had a "delayed reaction". Glad no one was hurt!

That is a bit scary - they need to go start pushing on them - or something - it would be a nightmare to be on a top story and have a tree fall on the roof at night! I doubt it would go into the bldg - but can you imagine how scary the noise would be - esp for the kids!?!?!? The root systems of those trees can be so shallow - and after all the rains and hurricanes - it's not suprising that so many are weakend.
SO glad nothing happened ot anyone! :goodvibes

I wonder if there has been a "duckie roundup" because OKW is usually FULL of ducks.. My kids usually go through numerous loaves of Winn Dixie bread feeding these moochers... We have been there at various times of the year and there are usually many critters.. I hope there are a few by the time we visit in March because the kids will certainly miss them.

Oh, by the way, may trees have spontaneously fallen in my neighborhood over the years... They get root damage when homes are built and a few years later... TIMBER!

Wow that is scary - and i was thinking it would be lovely if they turned the treehouses at SSR into DVC villas - but now I'm not so sure!
