Have a friend taking our kids for the night, so that DH and I can celebrate his 40th birthday in November! Thinking of eating at Shula's (he loves filet mignon). Would love to go dancing after dinner, but have never had the opportunity to try the places at the Boardwalk. (Since we're not night owls, I don't want to pay for entrance to Pleasure Island.) What kind of music can we expect at the Dance Hall? What else is on the Boardwalk? Any other suggestions, either for a steak dinner or a dance spot? Thanks!

The only place that I know of for dancing on the Baordwalk is Atlantic Dance. Here's what the February 2002 Guidemap says about it:

ATLANTIC DANCE
Atlantic Dnace is open five nights a week as a hot new Latin dance club! Sunday, Monday and Thursday our DJ will spin Latin music that promises to make you move. Friday and Saturday will feature live Latin bands playing contemporary and classic rhythms. Be sure to join us at Atlantic Dnace - the hottest club this side of the border. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Call (407) 939-2444 for more information on Atlantic Dance.

There is a cover charge to enter (I think it's $6), but it is waived for DVC members and also Disney Club members.

Even though it's not a dance club, you and your DH might also enjoy JellyRolls. It a bar with dueling pianos and can be loads of fun.

If you do a search on the Theme Parks Forum, you'll find lots of add'l info and opinions on both of these places.

We just went to Atlantic Dance a few weeks ago. There was a fantastic band performing but I can't think of their name right now! We are not dancers but have always enjoyed Atlantic Dance. They used to have swing music there and the dancers were fantastic! I guess we never went there when it was Latin music. This last band we saw played a lot of rock(The Stones) and then when the female singer joined in they played dance music. Every band we have ever seen there is very talented.
There is no cover charge right now. I don't know why the Dance Hall is not promoted more and why more people don't go there. It's a beautiful place and the entertainment is top-notch. It's never crowded though, it's sad!
I know people like the dueling piano thing but we never have. I guess we've heard "Bye Bye Miss American Pie" and "Jeremiah Was a Bullfog" enough times in our lives. ;)
A lot of people do enjoy going to Jellyrolls though.
We think The Flying Fish has THE BEST steak in WDW! The calamari is fantastic too. We just weren't as impressed with Shula's.
So, that's my two cents worth. :p
Enjoy your vacation,
Mary Ann :sunny: :sunny:
