Dance recital gift ideas

I did not get my daughter ,11, anything. Both grandmas gave her a small bouquet of flowers ( which she did not even put into water)

My daughter dances year round and competitively. We pay enough on costumes, classes, competition fee, and travel/hotels.

Her studio does give out plaques f0r 5,and 10 yrs dancing there.

When she competes individually,
She will receive a trophy at a baton competition for 1st only. 2nd and 3rd only get medals. She has 4 first place trophys from this year and a few medals. She is very proud of them because she earned them.

If she is competing with her team in a group event, the winning group gets 1- 1st place trophy. The only time the girls will receive medals is if the take first place at Nationals.

Well, I didn't get DD or DS anything! However, the Grands brought DD flowers and gave DS some $. We all went out to dinner after one of the shows too. And of course I heaped loads of praise on their performances!!

My DD is on the competitive dance team so she knows we pay lots of $ for that and doesn't expect a gift. I do though if we are away at a comp, buy her a t-shirt or some piece of clothing from that comp.

My girls recital is tomorrow. This morning my MIL (she gets my girls off to school in the morning) gave my DD's charm bracelets with a ballet shoe charm. She also ordered flowers for them for the recital.

Last year I think my MIL just got my girls flowers, but the flowers had a dancing doll on it.

My mom gave my DD *this* for this year's recital - purchased @ Tuesday Morning for no more than $40 I'm sure.

We went out for dinner afterwards.

We only have one recital a year and we always give a bouquet of flowers in her favorite color. I love the idea of a scrapbook with a picture from every year though. I am going to start this. We actually were trying to remember how many years she has been in and I was trying to remember and count by costume.

DD17 just had her last recital last month. DH and I got her flowers one year and she said she appreciated the thought, but it wasn't necessary. So we stopped. Our dance studio always had a special recital t-shirt with all of the dancers' names on the back that we would buy -- it was a bit of a fundraiser for the studio and the dancers liked the shirts. I think DD figured that was a good gift and enough was enough. My mom would always give her money when she came to the recital.

Our studio has had t-shirts for the last several years. I think they are 10-15 so I do get DD one of those! She got a nice plaque one year that has the "dance like no one is watching" saying on it from someone.

DD has her recital tomorrow. We will get her a small bouquet of flowers. Almost all of the girls get flowers, DD would be very disappointed if she did not.

At her last recital some of the girls had several bouquets and other gifts. MIL said she thought of flowers, but figured I would get some so she didn't bother. Kinda of funny cause overall MIL spoils the kids rotten, LOL!

I used to get flowers but then my mom stopped buying them. My grandma would always buy me a dozen and a half roses when I did a show and my mother would prometly steal them and use them to decorate the house.

Flowers are the most commonly given around here. Our studio also has a t-shirt made for each recital, so getting that is also a popular gift for the girls. Otherwise I don't think our studio is big into gifts.

My daughter competes so she's usually been performing a lot before recital hits. Then we have SEVEN recitals and she is in all of them. I've stopped giving her flowers and at age 8 she didn't even notice. We buy her DVDs of the recital which she loves because she then dances to the other routines all summer (costs us $50 to pay for 2 recitals to cover all the dances she's in.)

Her favorite dessert is ice cream, so our tradition is that she also gets ice cream at the end of each day (so this year she performed on 4 different days, so 4 nights of ice cream.) Some nights it's just a shake from McDonald's at 10pm at night, other times we'll take her to her favorite Frozen Yougert Creations place with all the toppings.

While I don't feel she needs a "gift" for recital, I do try to go out of my way to buy her special snacks for backstage, maybe a new book to read. I don't think of it as a gift...rather on the big weekend, she gets there at 11am and doesn't leave til after 9pm at night and then repeats near the same hours on Sunday. It's HOT backstage, she dances in 5 recitals in 2 days. I'm exhausted changing her and working backstage, and I don't dance at all. This year she had sore feet by the third recital! I just try to do whatever I can to help make her as comfortable and rested as possible and praise her!
