I did not get my daughter ,11, anything. Both grandmas gave her a small bouquet of flowers ( which she did not even put into water)
My daughter dances year round and competitively. We pay enough on costumes, classes, competition fee, and travel/hotels.
Her studio does give out plaques f0r 5,and 10 yrs dancing there.
When she competes individually,
She will receive a trophy at a baton competition for 1st only. 2nd and 3rd only get medals. She has 4 first place trophys from this year and a few medals. She is very proud of them because she earned them.
If she is competing with her team in a group event, the winning group gets 1- 1st place trophy. The only time the girls will receive medals is if the take first place at Nationals.

We all went out to dinner after one of the shows too. And of course I heaped loads of praise on their performances!!

I've stopped giving her flowers and at age 8 she didn't even notice. We buy her DVDs of the recital which she loves because she then dances to the other routines all summer (costs us $50 to pay for 2 recitals to cover all the dances she's in.)
