I need suggestions regarding websites. SIL suggested that I get the following for my nieces, who participate in dance competitions:

1) A hanging mirror - I think these fold up and get hung from the rolling rack which the kids put their costumes on

2) A metal cosmetics case.

Also, if you have any ideas about little gifts which they might find useful for dance competitions, I would be interested in hearing them. (I did order Precision Tip Qtips, which looked like they might come in handy for make-up. I don't think the girls have them.)

Thanks for any thoughts you might have.

For the mirror check out rac and roll or dream duffel. They have the mirrors.
Starbucks cards would be good,
Bobby pins
Does she have a case for her hair staightner. Vera Bradley has cute ones
Good make up remover wipes
Candy

Fun snacks with some protein (like nuts or peanut butter)
Fuzzy slipper socks to wear backstage
A onesie to throw on backstage/after competing
If their group has colors, you could look for accessories that go.
A quality water bottle
All-purpose tool
Emergency first-aid kit (small)
lint roller
manicure kit

My kids don't do competition dance, but I've spent many, many hours backstage doing costumes at plays and dance recitals. People crack up, it's like I'm on "Let's Make A Deal"--you need a spare hairnet? Got it. Bandaid? Check. Clear nail polish? Yup. I don't know if your nieces use hairnets or other things we use, but you could easily fill a small box or bag with stuff like clear tape, clear nail polish, lip balm, hairnets, ribbon, bobby pins, hair ties, tampons--whatever might be appropriate. Because these are things that, if you need them, you NEED THEM!

We use pac to rack bags and they have a nice foldable hanging mirror. You may check to see which competition duffel they use so that it will be compatible. They are different sometimes.

Best thing I have ever done for dance was to take one of those clear graft organizer boxes and make a "go box" with all of the essential tiny things. making up one of those and personalizing it with a name or monogram might be nice. things I include:
bobby pins
hair nets
hair ties
gymnastics clips
double stick dance tape (bunheads makes the best I have ever used)
a small sewing kit and scissors (include pointe shoe thread if needed)
clear nail polish (for stocking runs)
safety pins in several sizes
bandaids
antiseptic
blister bandaids
lint roller
nail clips
a small can of hairspray
super glue (saved us one time when a heel pulled off a shoe)
makeup remover
nail polish remover( good for scuffs on shoes as well as forgotten polish)

leave a compartment for any makeup things they might want extras of on hand, and one for extra tights.

discountdance.com and allaboutdance.com are where I've been buying my dance supplies for over a decade.

A nice stainless steel water bottle was a must have for me when I was in dance competitions, as well as gift cards for snacks while out and about. Another thing I always had on hand were those large rubber bands for stretching out tight muscles. They usually come in lots of fun colors, too. Spare tights are never a bad idea, since they're constantly getting runs in them two minutes before you're supposed to be on stage (ask their mom what color their company uses, but it's probably nude color). Hair ties and bobby pins are extra little add-on items as well. Another thing to do that would be great would be to get a little change purse and fill it up for each of them with maybe $10 (or whatever you're comfortable with) worth of quarters and one dollar bills for vending machines. Since a lot of the time they might be separated from their mom for a few hours at a time and want a snack, having their own little stash of cash to get drinks and snacks from the vending machines.

I'd add hair pins (the great big ones), moleskin, and NuSkin to this list! Also, if you are buying tights, find out both the color and the brand. Different companies make different shades of nude, tan, pink, etc.

One of the moms at our studio used Altoid Tins and filled with bobby pins so they were contained. A small sewing kit is also very useful, especially the scissors. Safety pins, maybe a monogrammed item with the dance studio colors. Fashion tape and hairspray were always needed.

Kaboodle brand makes awesome dancers makeup cases. Harmon's carries a big selection of them
