Dance Moms - anyone still watching?

Just finished watching this weeks episode in fact. Not a fan of Candy Apples at all. It's like their sole mission is to follow ALDC around to give them crap. Cathy's just using those kids and that's so not fair to them.

Brooke's singing?. Yeah, no. I don't think she has a good voice and like others have said if it wasn't for this show she'd never would have been given this opportunity.

I'm not a fan of Asia's dancing at all. I think it's a bit too suggestive at times for a young girl her age. I much prefer watching Mackenzie. She seems more real and innocent.

I think Asia has an amazing talent - but I agree, her choreography belongs on someone quite a bit older. Mackenzie is not as talented, but definitely dances more appropriately for her age.

Still catching up with this season...agree, too much Candy Apples. I still don't like Aisa, I usually fast forward when she dances. Chloe is still my favorite. Holly wore some serious eye makeup in the one episode I recently watched! Other than that...it is still a train wreck!

I so agree with everything you said.:thumbsup2

Cathy comes across as desperate and the rivalry between her and Abbey is bizarre.

Brooke cannot sing well at all. It's soooo pitchy! The only reason she received this chance is simply because people know who she is due to Dance Moms.

Asia's dancing is far too mature and jerky. Her sickled feet make my DD crazy every time she dances! Her booty shaking (and her mom's!!) is inappropriate for tv. Mackenzie's dancing is much smoother, more polished and age appropriate. I much prefer to watch hers over Asia's. And don't even get me started on Asia's mom, she's nuts and a trouble maker.

I agree about Maddie. she only has one facial expression, so I've never understood why she gets praised for her "face." also, I think she showed her true colors the week she lost to Chloe (even though Abby "fixed" it for Maddie after the fact---that was horrible.). Chloe showed grace in all of that. no wonder Chloe seems to have self esteem issues.

originally, I felt bad for Maddie, but it's starting to become clear that she thinks her poo doesn't stink. :(

The few times Maddie has not placed first and was instead behind a teammate, her eyes go cold and she gets hateful looking. That kid does not take finishing second graciously. She could take lessons from Chloe. I mean, Maddie says the right words (You were great! I'm so happy for you!) but one look at her cold eyes and her clenched teeth and you know she is 15 seconds away from a foot stomping temper tantrum.

I too, am sick of the "I'm constipated/Thank goodness I was finally able to poop" expressions Maddie is so praised for. But then, I think her mother is nutty and two faced.

Poor Asia is destined for a pole.

Something that has intrigued me about Maddie is that in the group dances, she has many more facial expressions. When she is doing her solos, she does seem to only have two faces - one is extremely happy and the other is the confused/upset look. I can see why Abby has told her to work on her face, but I don't understand why she seems to have more range in the group dances than her solos.

I think Kendall is an absolutely beautiful child and feel so sorry for her when she is watching her mother and Abby fight. Kendall seems to be the one dancer who will tell her mother to stop fighting with Abby and that she is just making things worse. Unfortunately, while Abby tells the dancers (such as Chloe) that they need to tell their mothers to stop complaining and that their (the dancer's) lack of speaking up is what hurts them in Abby's eyes, standing up to her mother doesn't seem to have done a thing to help Kendall. :confused3

Holly is absolutely a class act. Easily my favorite mother.

Here's my main problem with the moms. Abby's tough. They know that. Most of them have had their kids at the studio since they were very young, and they come back year after year. They need to put up or shut up. Don't like how Abby talks to you and your kids? Go somewhere else. Don't like how Abby assigns the solos? Go somewhere else. They pay her thousands upon thousands of dollars to train their kids. They must think that's the absolute best studio for their kids or they would have gone elsewhere. Abby has directed every single one of them toward the door at some point, yet they keep coming back.

Now, they could go to another studio, but Abby's is the one with a show based around it. If the moms left, they wouldn't get their TV time and that's what they're really after.

I will say that Abby knows her business and she gets results. Her girls are usually flawless and perform well as a unit. It's obvious that she trained them all personally and helped them develop their skills. That's why they dance so well together. The same can't be said for Cathy, who slaps her name on backs of dancers she didn't train herself, then kicks them to the curb when they start to falter.

I also wish the moms would not engage Cathy and her crew. The best way to shut down a bully is to completely ignore them. Of course, that wouldn't get ratings so they'll continue to have their little purse-swinging, water-throwing fights. I just hope the moms are putting some money aside for the daughter's therapy bills!

I have been watching since it starred and have as few things to add...

Chloe won a scholorship for ballet, did she ever use it? It has never been addressed so i really don't know.

Does anyone remember Maddys audition ever she had horrible technique and couldn't balance on her toes at all? Her dance is very expensive with her movements and hi would enjoy it off her poo faces were blurred out.

Chloe is much more on point with her technique and her body is built much more differently then Maddy. Her long limb give her as better "dancer" body then Maddy, any day of the week.

Poor Chloe looks terrified of Abby so much of the time:( Maddy just sucks up and is the golden girl.

I am so over acro!!!! Please tell me these girls are being taught by as gymnast and not as just as dance teacher! One local audio here has the same teacher doing it and their form is horrible!!! It makes me very nervous.

This sounds bad but I could totally see Maddie being like the girl in the black swan. She looks evil when she doesn't win and it doesn't help that when she didn't Abby fixes it. What is she going to do when she gets older, have Abby go with her?

I watch it! It's my favorite show.

They had so much Candy Apple time this season because they needed some filler content while Abby was shooting her Ultimate Dance Competition show in LA. I also think they were testing the market to see if Cathy and her bunch could be a more permanent addition to the show. I think the viewers made their dissatisfaction known. The facebook page for the show was bombarded with complaints.

I've come to really enjoy Asia on the show. She and her mom drove me nuts on the AUDC show last summer but the mom seems to have toned it down a bit.

The whole Kelly/Brooke/Paige drama is getting a little old. Either pull your kids from the studio or quit your complaining.

I agree with the Kelly thing. She bursts in to tears over and over complaining about how horrible Abby is to them. Uh, hello? Last I checked, dance is a voluntary activity. Subjecting your kids to someone as bad as you describe is more of a reflection on YOU. So leave them and shut up, or go. Please.

I didn't see the other show, so wasn't familiar with Asia. If that is her mom toned down, then it seems like I didn't miss anything. I really don't like them.

I might be alone in this, but I haven't minded the Candy Apple stuff. Except that it's starting to seem pretty repetitive.

The entire show is a contrived farce. Even the competitions this year are specifically created just for the show . In many of the competitions, the kids were chosen and invited to compete by the show. The results you see on the show are many times, not indicative of the reality. Last season, by just checking the actual comp results which are posted online, you can see the results were actually different than shown.

This season is worse than ever. I stopped watching because it was all so staged, including the moms, their fights and situations.

I think Abby gets a lot of flack for being rough on the kids, but she's the definition of a competition coach and the parents know that going into it.

I agree with her being no tougher than any other competition coach. When DS was about the same age, he played competitive soccer on the state level. No different from Abby! What I couldn't understand was the ice skating incident. The mothers had signed a contract that the students wouldn't go ice skating within a certain time of a competition. Yet, when the mothers took them against the contract they'd signed they didn't understand why Abby minded! Well, they signed the contract-now's not the time to complain! Sorry, maybe too much time spent with competition coaches.

Poor Asia is destined for a pole.

She may end up there at a later point in life, but if she keeps up here skill levels and fixes her feet, she will be booked as a back up dancer for a mega superstar, video shoots, music awards shows and on down the line. While she's not broadway material right now, she has the draw factor for Vegas shows and cruise ship shows.

I agree with everyone about Maddie's faces, also think Asia's expressions need work!!

I would love to see a group tap number.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I admit, I never thought of this before, but you are so right! I'll never be able to watch Asia the same way again. Thanks for the laugh (not so sure about the image!)

Oooh, me too. Tap is my DD's favorite class. But, something tells me these girls don't tap (or don't tap well). Seems they only can do these lyrical/acro/jazzy routines. They sure as heck aren't ballerinas, which, in my limited dance understanding (I was a swimmer so we aren't real sure where DD came from :rotfl:) is the foundation of all dance (at least according to DD's school). Our school has a phenomenal group of older girls and their tap routine for our recital blew me away.

You all do understand that the whole show is staged, right? :confused3 Scripted, rehearsed, etc?

You're right about tapping. They also rarely tap (unless they have the background) on So You Think You Can Dance--tapping requires too much learning time, for lack of a better phrase. Ditto for ballet--a ballet dancer can pick up ballroom, but not the other way around.

If you remember when the girls were auditioning for Joffrey (I think--the ballet scholarship), the judges/audition people were saying that Chloe had gorgeous lines, but they were worried about getting her too old, or words like that. That her technique was not where it could be, but she had a ton of talent and potential. When they said that, I thought it meant that they were going to accept her, so they could really help her develop her potential. So they did--not sure if she actually went or not, though.

Time to get rid of candy apples. I also think Brooke and Kelly are delusional about this singing career and album. Anyone enjoy Brooks singing? I don't.

I agree on both points. If Kelly would get Brooke a voice teacher, it may make a difference but I think right now its all hinging on the popularity of the show.

Kelly's tears didn't phase me but seeing Abby get emotional about her tears made me tear up! I think Abby really does love Kelly, Brook and Paige.

Every dance studio that we have friends dancing at, if you want to be in lyrical classes, you have to take ballet. Not pointe, but a general ballet class. Because you are correct, that ballet is the foundation of dance. If you are on the competition team, you have to take a ballet class. The only exception to that rule is if you are strictly in hiphop, which is like 4 girls out of the 40 sum on the competition team.

Maddie did ok on the tap routine that she did a couple of weeks ago, BUT it was stated that it was an older routine that she has worked on previously.

One of my DDs got me into this show and now I DVR and watch it every week. I find it very intriguing because my DDs play competitive softball and there are some similarities. Yes, folks do act like that for real (it may be a bit exaggerated and dragged on for the show, but underneath there is some reality to what we are seeing). Some of the crap I've seen at the ball-field...we could have a great reality show too...LOL (Softball Moms...or Dads).
