I tried to watch it this year but it was obvious you needed to have been watching it for some time or you are completely lost without knowing all the backround info.
I think this writing style will not attract new viewers and the ratings will never increase as a consequence.
Damages has been renewed for two more seasons, however, the show has been picked up by Direct 101 network, and will be shown, in first run, solely on that network. Unlike the last show Direct 101 "saved", Friday Night Lights, there are no plans to carry Damages six months later on any ohter network. So fans of the show, who don't have DirecTV, will have to wait until after the DVD release.
I'm happy that Damages got saved by DirecTV for a couple of more seasons. It is very likely that some Damages fans will probably download episodes that will be uploaded soon after the DirecTV airings.
I hope not. Without D*'s permission, that would be illegal, and the good folks who work on show deserve all the recognition for their efforts that they can get.
^I also don't like the idea of it happening but it will happen. I agree all the people who work on the show deserve recognition. But with Friday Night Lights illegal uploading and downloading has happened since last year. Usually within hours or day after DirecTV would air episodes of the show they would end up online. There are a few sites and message boards in which download links get passed around in PM's. I see the same thing happening with Damages. I have also seen sites in which people who don't have AMC, HBO, Showtime or other channels talk about illegally downloading episodes of Mad Men or Breaking Bad.
It is such a shame. For viewers, it is only television; if folks don't want to or cannot subscribe to the service that the show is on, then it is well to do without it. The transgressions you highlighted actually make things worse for all of us, in the end.

I agree they could do without or find another alternatives that are legal. I know a few people who don't have preminum cable channels so they wait until shows like Dexter or True Blood end up on Netflix. Last year on another message board I was on there was a Mad Men discussion thread and the person that started it said she didn't have cable and usually would download episodes by the next day after it airings. That was when I started to see how of cable shows are ending up on torrents sites. On another message board I visited a few poster talked about illegally downloading the HBO miniseries The Pacific.

I just checked out the IMDB Damages boards and in one thread there are a few people who have already mentioned torrents. Some have mentioned the iTunes purchasing option which might be possible but it would be up to DirecTV to decide on this. Some people would probably download illegally rather than pay 1.99 for an episode. It will be interesting to see if DirecTV will make Damages available on iTunes or other similar video on demand options. One poster on IMDB is predicting that DirecTV might get more subscribers because of Damages. I really don't see that happening maybe some people will subscribe but I don't see the majority fan base doing that.
I agree it is honest thing to do. A few of the people I know who watch shows first through Netflix will buy DVD sets of the shows for their home collection. In the end they are helping to continually support those shows and those who work on the shows.
