Cannot have dairy anymore and I hear that they have Tofutti on Main Stree...does anyone know if they have it at the ice cream place in Epcot? And what about Beaches and Cream?

Is it just plain vanilla or do they have flavors? I am soooo craving chocolate chip right now :lmao:

Hi Nick! Sorry to hear the no-dairy (HOW are you going to eat Italian now...so many delish Italian dishes have cheese!)

Anyway, we just traveled in September with son & DIL--she's on no-dairy now. Don't think you'll get much choice on Tofutti...Everywhere we found it, it was definitely for vanilla only. Can't help you with availability at counter service places because don't think DIL ever asked at the counter service..she loves the Mickey rice krispie treats so had those for all her snack credits:) However at every table service place they offered her the choice of Tofutti or fresh fruit for dessert. Some places also had Rice Dream but again was mostly just vanilla flavor (one place may have had chocolate Rice Dream?)

Thanks for the info Cathy! For the good cheesy stuff I have the Lactaid pills but I dont want to rely on them and I will just have a bite here and there...but only if its really good! I think at Tutto I will have pasta with sauce but not a cream sauce and no shaved cheese on top

Do you have a link to your Sept reviews? I seemed to have missed them somewhere.....

I think my only choice at B&C was Vanilla maybe they had others but nothing as exotic as Chocolate Chip. :rotfl:

Is it all dairy or just lactose? Dole Whip, all three flavors are lactose free but not totally dairy free since they have a small amount of sodium caseinate.

ETA: I see its lactose so Dole Whips should be your friend.

Its just lactose...so the Dole Whip is vanilla, pineapple and orange right? Do they have chocolate?

Funny thing is when I could eat regular ice cream I never did but now that I cannot I am craving chocolate chip sooooo much that I want to pop a Lactaid and dig into a pint :lmao: The pain isnt worth the enjoyment though

didn't do any Sept reviews...decided not to "subject" son & DIL to the photo-frenzy on the meals...it was the first trip in more than 10 years or both of them, and their first anniversary so we skipped the photos at the meals. And all of the restaurants we went to were "old" places...neither of them are adventurous eaters so we stuck with a couple of buffets and steak/chicken places. Meals were pretty much the same as old reviews so I didn't bother writing it up.

The only thing different with this trip's dining was traveling with a on a person dietary restriction, and I must say DIsney is fabulous with that...even at the buffets. I had put "no-dairy" on the reservations and DIL was thrilled at how many choices she had at every restaurant at Disney. Chef came out and discussed menu and what they could change around for her. Even at the buffets, the chef not only walked her through the buffet showing what she could have "as is" on the buffet but every buffet also offered several choices they would make from scratch for her as dairy-free. DIL decided Disney was the best place in the real world to have dietary issues...she's so used to having to limit her choices on menus (a lot of restaurants outside Disney will agree to leave dairy off when she orders, then the food arrives with the cheese or the milk-based sauce. That didn't happen at Disney...her specially made choices showed up quickly, fresh and perfect. Her only objection was the dairy-free desserts being limited to Tofutti, Rice Dream or fresh fruit. But even that she said was a willing trade-off for getting virtually whatever she wanted dairy free for the entrees.)

No chocolate well at least not at WDW. Dole does make chocolate, there are a total of 8 flavors of what is really now called Dole Soft Serve and one other bit of info.

You can find Dole Soft Serve at a number of locations across the country.

Haggan Daz always used to have dairy free ice cream - I forget the brand they carried but as a child it was the only place I could get desserts out it seemed. They have 1 on the westside at DTD so you may be able to get a more exotic flavor there.

I would suggest going to the disABILITIES Forum and look at Post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs. There is a large section in that post dealing with special dietary needs, as well as many related links. You can get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs by following the link in my signature.

This is a very common topic of discussion in the disABILITIES Forum.

I had a dish of chocolate Tofutti in May at B & C, waitress said they don't always have chocolate. Only other choice was vanilla. They had rice dream vanilla too. I reallllly miss the Mickey ice creams from the carts though!

Although everyone's sensitivity is different, Dole Whips are fine for me (yeah!), and real cheese doesn't bother me, but any drop of milk or esp. cream does. Cream is an ingredient where you'd sometimes least expect it, like the fire roasted corn spoonbread at Crystal Palace. At Il Mulino the chef made my Carbonara without the small amount of cream they normally use, but it does have a lot of cheese on it.

Lactaid is your friend. Take a box of the individually wrapped Ultras (double strength) on your next trip for a bite of those "must haves", but don't overdo it even with Lactaid or you'll  suffer the consequences if your system is super sensitive. When my intolerance first started I could eat a little dairy with a full meal and not be bothered, now several years later even a spoonful in a cassorole dish will get me. Cheese is not my problem, but the milk and cream really get to me.
