I am planning a trip Nov 2010 with just me and DS 5. I am hoping to spend less than $100 per day on food. Is this possible? We are planning one character meal at Crystal Palace, one birthday lunch at Whispering Canyon and probably a lunch or dinner at Sci-Fi. The rest will be counter service places in the parks or at the food court.

Yes, of course. The dining plan for one adult and one child is less than $100/day. Even with a tip you are under.

i don't think we are going to add the dining plan. as we are getting the park tickets almost for free we are planning on booking a room only through disney.

With one adult and one child, at almost all CS, I'd say you should have no problem keeping it under $100 a day.

The average CS meal with a drink is $10 for an adult. So even less for a kids meal.

I usually eat mostly CS and I budget about $30 per day for myself. I usually end up with some money left over.

Have you considered stocking your room with breakfast foods? Cereal, granola bars, bread, peanut butter... All of these things are quick, easy to store, and will save you money!

Also, in the past my husband and I have saved on lunch by doing this, but using either PB&J sandwiches or crackers with peanut butter or crackers and cheese.

...just a few thoughts! good luck! :)

You should be in good shape to keep to your budget. The TS meals you have are going to cost you a good part of that budget, but the great thing is, you can purchase kids meals for yourself at the CS places and save a little more (if you don't mind eating chicken nuggets a lot). I did that several times over our last trip because we decided to pay OOP - the dining plan just didn't serve us for a 4 day trip.

Have a great trip!

thanks everyone for the feedback on costs. it looks like i have overbudgeted for food, so maybe if i get a pin code we can book akl!

any problem. Of the three TS meals you mentioned, the most expensive one, with tip, should be about $50 (Crystal Palace dinner. Breakfast would be $35-$36) . The other two should be no more than $40 for the two of you. I think this past trip, we usually spent $30-$35 for CS meals for two adults and two kids.

We generally find that at Disney, we don't need three full meals. We usually have something light before hitting the parks, begniets or croissants for example, another snack and two meals. We usually have some granola bars or fruit snacks with us for quick snacks.

Yes, I think $100 is MORE than enough for one adult and a young child. We don't spend much more than $100 per day and we have two adults and two seven year olds (on the DDP).

Awww, I love the dining plan. But I understand. Hopefully you'll get a Pin Code and can get in at AKL!
