I was wondering what is the average spent per day per person on dining. I'm trying to decide whether or not to spend the extra on dining and use a ticket discount or use the dining plan forgoing the ticket discount. BTW just started planning our first trip to DW!

It all depends on how you plan to dine. If you go strictly counter and quick service the average is lower. If you start adding in table service or signature dining the price goes up.

Lots of decisions to make for your first trip! :goodvibes

basics: we are a family of 4. Dh, myself, honorable son#1 19, honorable son#2 17. We all eat full meals. what I mean by that is I always read "tips" on sharing food. That is soooo not use, reaching your hand over to split my entree may result in a fork wound to your hand. :goodvibes

Generally we spend ~130- 150 bucks a day on dining.
We tried the dining plan once and it saved us only 78 bucks. we don't use it anymore. here are my reasons.

1) It forces us to eat un-naturally. We like apps (not on the plan) and rarely have dessert at the end of a meal.

2) there have been days where we want a sit down breakfast. This is not the best use of your TS credit so we still ended up paying opp for breakfast.

3) If we are there 10 days there are days when we don't want any sit down meals, so once again there is a waste of ts credits. So it doesn't allow you to be flexible. we make the adr's and then we end up saying we're not really hungry but forcing ourselves to eat simply not to waste the money.

we spent an average of $120-160 a day on food for our family of four last trip. This was eating at signatures and lots of TS meals. We eat a maximum of one CS meal per day, usually lunch.

We have spent as little as $15 - $20 a day for our family of 5 in the early years (no meals in the parks, a snack or two to share, brought water and sandwiches, etc in with us) up to $300 a day for all food and beverages. If we stay on property, we get the dining plan, if we stay at our condo, we skip the dining plan and still have a few meals at our favorite restaurants throughout the week. Check the restaurant listings in Unofficial guide, it lists the price ranges for each restaurant. Whatever you plan on, add extra. We usually spend more than planned.

I tracked our spending from last trip and we spent about $207 per day for a family of 4 (me, DH, DD12, DS14). We typically ate one TS meal and one CS meal per day. This includes water, gatorades, snacks and tips.
