Hey everyone!

My name is Amy and I'm going to Orlando with my boyfriend on 3rd November for two weeks. We have once before and visited Sea World lots but have not been to Discovery Cove. As dolphin lovers, we would love to visit DC this time as it is slightly cheaper and we think we should be able to afford it.

However, as the package is all-inclusive, we'd love to stay for the day and enjoy the other attactions DC has to offer. I love the idea of the park being quiet and relaxing. However, I have a fear of fish. I know it sounds daft but the thought of them swimming at my feet etc makes me feel sick and I don't think I'd be able to swim in the pools where there are real fish. I know many of the pools/attractions at DC have these so would it be silly for me to pay the price to go? Is there anything else I can do? Are there any swimming areas with no fish in the water?

I'm not bothered by anything other than traditional fish (rays, dolphins etc are fine but tropical fish are not). I also don't eat fish - will there be enough choice for me at lunch?

Hi Amy,

The Grand Reef is where you will find the tropical fish and the stingrays. The other swimming areas should be fine for you (no fish swimming about the people :thumbsup2). The lazy river is fish-free, the dolphin pool only has the dolphins, and the Freshwater Oasis is also fish free (there are marmoset monkeys playing in the trees above you, and otters in special areas behind glass enclosures, but nothing actually in the water with you). The aviary has lots of free-flying birds (how are you with birds?) that will land on you and eat fruit from little bowls that you hold in your hand. Then there's some lovely beach areas just for relaxing.

The Grand Reef really isn't my favourite part of the park, either. While the fish and stingrays are amazing to see, its kind of strange to swim among them IMHO. I know others LOVE it though! I am much more of a lazy river/Freshwater Oasis girl :) .

Whoops, missed your lunch question.

Definitely enough for you to eat, even without the fish dishes (I also will not eat fish  blech!). There's pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, chicken tenders, hamburgers, salad, wraps, and all kinds of good stuff. They did have a fish dish when we were there both times (I want to say tilapia?) and a shrimp jambalaya, but everything else was seafood-free.

Thank you SO much for your reply! My boyfriend has been getting mad as he thinks im just being silly but the thought of it makes me feel sick. If we booked it without knowing I know I wouldn't enjoy my day without knowing for sure if he was going to chuck me into a pool full of fish! I am excited now!! He can go to the Grand Reef and Sea Venture by himself! :)

My oldest did not want to swim in the grand reef either at first. There are bridges you can look down at the fish in the water, or you can view from rocks on the side. But eventually he was wading in the shallow sandy edge where the rays were the only fish. Later, after the dolphin swim and time in the freshwater (fish free) area, then he went right into the grand reef without any qualm.
