As you all know I'm a travel agent and have to put up with peopel asking EVERY day about the new restrictions on hand luggage. Not a problem but some of the requests I had this week made me smile...
Lady 1: Can you tell me what I can't take on board?
me: Yes, basically no liquids, gels or pastes of any kind
Lady1: ok, what about my lipstick?
me: No, thats classed as a liquid, gel or paste
Lady1: but its in a tube!
me: well, its still classed as a liquid, gel or paste
Lady1: but its not a lip gloss! its a lipstick!
(sometime later the message got through)
Lady2: can I take a hair streaking kit?
me: Not in your hand luggage but you can put it in the hold
Lady2: but I usually streak my hair on the way to the accomodation
(I nearly spat my coffe out imagining all these women on board the transfer bus with those daft streaking caps on their heads)
Lady3: My 2 year old daughter will need a drink on the flight
me: you can get one on baord
Lady3: so I can't take her juice with me
me: no, sorry, no liquids, gels or pastes
Lady3: but she needs a drink!
me: you can get one on board, they'll carry extra because of the restrictions
Lady3: what about a carton of juice?
me: no, sorry, you can't take that on board, no liquids, gels or pastes of any kind
Lady3: but its in a carton!
etc etc etc, it went on for about half an hour, the other customers in the shop were in stitches.
Now I know the guidelines haven't been very clear but these were ridiculous
