I haven't read the book. I haven't seen the movie. I have no idea what anyone is talking about.

Can someone explain the book to me in a few sentences.

Thanks.

Its about a conspiracy by the Catholic Church to cover up documentation that Jesus married and had a child.

The conspiracy unravels in a series of clues hidden in DaVinci's paintings, old churches, and other places. The main character hunts for the clues while the villian in the story tries to hunt and kill him.

Jesus married Mary. Mary escaped to France and had a daughter. A fringe group of the Catholic church don't want the secret revealed.

Mary Magdalene that is...not Mary his mother.

There is also a secret society that has guarded this information for centuries and the possible loss of this information forever except for clues hidden in some of DaVinci's paintings.

SPOILER......

Also Jesus and Mary Magdalene's daughter was the first in a long bloodline . Basicly there are living decendents of Jesus today that are protected by the Priory of Sion.

forgive me if it's obvious, I don't know much about religion. Why wouldn't they want this known? Wouldn't it be history?

It would take away from his divinity in their eyes. Jesus is/was considered to be more than just a mortal man so anything that makes him seem mortal would diminish his "purity". There is more to the story of what the Catholic church has changed or adapted to its own uses (pagan symbols, the role of women, etc.). Some of it is factual, some of it is fiction and some of it lies somewhere in between.

Oh, and don't forget, there was a (fictional) movement to make the church a male-dominated entity and to diminish the role of the female. In the past, females had a very high regard in society and were in leadership in earlier religions. I can't remember what the motive was, but someone didn't like it.

Hence the *theory* that Mary Magdalane has been portrayed as a prostitute or "woman of ill-repute" at times. Some theories believe that she was very important to Jesus--as important as the apostles.
