Hello Disboard & Podcast pals,
I am sure like most of you on this section of the boards you are regular listeners to the podcast (thanks to Pete & crew, your show is great). If you recall the show sometime around March 10th regarding the new fan club D23. I came away with a small sense that Pete wasn't too "fond" of the new club (understatement of the year). While you had some valid points I am really excited about some of the new offerings. Some of these might be right up your alley Pete.

1. D23 members have an exclusive screening to see UP at the El Capitan in Hollywood for FREE. That's free like FREE not "Free" like the Disney dining promotions. The ticket includes admission, popcorn & soda, and some live on stage talks and shows prior to the screening.
IF THAT WERENT ENOUGH, there is a free pin trading event for D23 members prior to the show (This is a shout out for Kevin)

But wait, there's more...

TWICE this summer there is going to be a free tour for D23 members of the Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Archives. Score another one for Kevin!!!
This is a dream come true for any Disney fan. The only other way to see this is an Adventure’s by Disney trip....

Next we have a free screening on Disneyland's birthday of a 1956 show about Disneyland. This is backstage and features a post show reception. Disney park fans rejoice, that sounds awesome!!!

In September there is a free screening of the new Disney exhibit in San Francisco. Free, yet again.

Most of this stuff is in Southern California, not at WDW. However, there is a private free viewing of illuminations at Epcot for D23 members.

I understand this is very concentrated on the west coast. You guys have FOUR amazing parks, TWO great water parks, the DCL (for now... bwahaha) and 10000 resorts and other activities.

Also, some non-free stuff. There are great special events for Broadway, Chicago and Vegas Disney musicals including backstage tours and MORE.

This is about A MILLION TIMES BETTER than the other D23 perks like being able to buy exclusive crap. I think along with the magazine and other perks the club is really looking like a great thing for Disney fans.

Here's to membership!

Yeah it's great...if you live on the West Coast. I haven't joined yet and don't plan on it until they start offering some of the same opportunities over here in FL. I mean they are having all these tours, screenings, parties, blah, blah, blah, not to mention the Expo and all we get is an Illuminations VIP viewing party? Come on Disney, you've got to do better than that!

I do see how you are excited though!!

As I said on a previous post, I think this is a good start, but they need to do more. Believe it or not, I don't want D23 to fail - I just want it to represent the ENTIRE fan community, not just one aspect of it. I think the reason your seeing some of these new announcements is because so many have complained about D23.

I've talked to more than a few people at Disney who have told me that they really thought the initial offerings of D23 were going to have us all lining up in the aisles to sign up. They were not expecting the backlash they got and it really took them by surprise.

Let's hope this is the first step in a progression of better offerings and ideas from D23.

Pete

In California .... and specifically, Southern California.

A private viewing of Illuminations? No thanks.

I'm totally excited for this, too- but as others said... I wish there were more on the east coast. It could be entirely possible for me to reach stuff in Florida. California? It's possible, but not very probable for me to get there.. They're trying- and I love being in D23! But they need more for this half of the country!

I admit it is heavy towards So Cal, which is great for us down here.... I think it should and will expand to the east coast. I am sure there are TONS of things they can do out there for D23.

If I was on the east coast I would be bummed. I know about "Disenvy"... I love having DLR in my backyard but I miss the 1000s of things we don't have that WDW has. To combat this my doctor prescribed "DVC". Taken yearly, DVC will eliminate feelings of inferiority and insecurity about having a much smaller park.

Someone needs to start emailing them about having more events on the east coast. Pete, do you know who or where to go?

You could be right, maybe these items are aimed at answering critics about the club. I think Di$ney learned that people don't want $800 dollar pins. I am not surprised about some of the reaction, and I agreed with some of it.

Overall, I think this is a great direction for such a new club.

what about us Brits. We get nothing! And nothing is free REALLY because your paying the best part of $100 a year.
