D23 Memberships?

Is the no cost d23 membership worth the trouble to sign up? I'm seeing people online saying that they like the gold membership because of the magazine, but $75 seems a bit steep to me if a magazine is the best feature. I realize that the paid memberships include exclusive d23 events, but I live just far enough away to make it a bit inconvenient to buzz over to Anaheim on a whim.

I'm just wondering if I should go to the trouble to do the free membership they now have. Do they send any discounts or promotions for the free members or no?

TIA for any info!

General members do get discounts and promotions. I would say that as long as signing up is free and as long as attending events isn't important to you, what do you have to lose? If for some reason you decide that the membership is not worthwhile, you can ask D23 to remove your name from the list.

I have the free membership. I first signed up for it in June of 2013. While we don't get the magazine, we still get discounts for some things and we get the links to D23 articles and content (not all of the content, but a lot of it).

It's free.....you have nothing to lose. At least check it out and give it a try.

I love, love the magazine and the little extras that come, but it is expensive to be Gold.

It took longer to write this post than sign up for the free membership lol. I would definitely check get it. Like many have said, there's nothing to lose.

There are also gold level events at the studio, around So Cal and occasionally in other states. For events like anniversary screenings and studio tours you do have to buy far enough in advance that you may be able to plan a weekend trip.

Thanks for the info., everyone!

I just didn't want to be spammed to death by e mails that don't offer me very much, lol.

So I signed up for the general membership and disneystore.com seems to know that I'm a D23 member now since it says so at the top where my name is, but is there a place to register on the D23 website? Is there a login on the site at all? I'm a little confused by that, tbh.

I remember something confusing happened when I first signed up with d23 a couple of years ago. As you said, the Disney Store site recognized me as being a d23 member. I began receiving the regular d23 emails (the Fanfare newsletter), but then, a few months later, I got an email telling me I had not registered my d23 account.

So I went to the d23 website and tried to register and it didn't work. Ultimately I had to write to GuestRelations@D23.com and ask what I was doing wrong. They resent me my d23 member number, which, I believe, was somewhere on the receipt from the Disney Store, then directed me here - https://d23.com/membership-information/ - and told me to make sure to use that number when I registered, as well as picking a password with upper and lower case letters, symbols, etc. In other words, you can't use your Disney Store log-in info for d23.

The website has changed a bit since then, so I wonder if they removed the actual registration link? I don't see it....

But where on that page does it actually let me register? If I click on the General membership button, it links me to "buy" the membership at disneystore.com.

Thank you very much for trying to help me, btw!

:lmao: I think I was adding in my last comment while you were posting the above. That part of the website page looks different than what it looked like when I finally figured out how to register (with the d23 person's help). At that point I think there was an actual "register" page. Now... it doesn't look like it's there. Weird. There should be somewhere to register your account and member number. You might have to send an email too -- but good grief! I thought for sure that after 2 years they would have found a way to make the registration process more clear! :lmao:

I guess you just have to create the Member account on that page, and do it that way.... but where is the section to create an account? :lmao:

Haha, thanks!

Yeah, I'm not seeing a place to register. I guess I'll e mail and see what's going on.

Thanks, anyway, Sherry!

It looks like -- from what I can tell -- now you can use your Disney Store sign-in info for d23. At the time I registered, I had to create a different password and all of that for d23 (according to the instructions I was given by the d23 person who replied to the email), and couldn't use the Disney Store info. Maybe they streamlined it to make it easier now, and actual registration is no longer required??

Here's the response I got from D23:

"Thank you for your email and interest in D23.com. You no longer need to login to access all of the content. Check it out today! www.D23.com"

So, if anyone else is signing up or thinking about it, there's not a separate login at the D23 website anymore.

I just shredded my D23 Gold Membership card. So mad at them. Bought tickets to the D23 Expo, could not even get into the convention center. Three hour line to get in. No customer service reps outside the building. If we HAD gotten inside there were up to four hour lines for different events. Called the customer service line, told them I could not even get inside the building. No refunds. Basically told to go pound sand. That was all I needed to hear. I had been a D23 member for three years. They do not care. Was told a supervisor would contact me. No one ever did. Flew home, shredded my unused tickets. Shredded my D23 Gold Membership card. Wiser now. Save your money.

I seem to remember getting first crack at some special edition pins leftover from the convention before they went to the general public?

Lol. It's a convention.

Pro tip: don't even attempt to go to Comic Con! Lmao

They are also a new poster who bumped a 2 year old thread as their first post instead of perhaps coming to the still actice expo thread.

Hazarding a guess that this poster wasn't waiting in the entry lines each day at the same time as the rest of us. (Thank you, Hydroguy!)
